Sadly, sadly. The closest six game series in the history of the sport. The Knicks ended up winning the series by one point. It was an awesome series. It was a great series. It came down to the last seconds of the sport. The Knicks ended up winning the series by one point. It was an awesome series. Yeah, it was a great series. It came down to the last seconds of the last, you know, game six. Obviously we didn't get, we were robbed of a game seven. I wanted a game seven so bad. I wanted a game so bad. I know we're not supposed to look ahead in the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:03:17 I wanted a game seven. I wanted the Sixers truly to win the series. I wanted them to advance. I wanted Celtic Sixers at some point down the line looking ahead and I feel like we were robbed of that. But credit to the Knicks. The Knicks, they were the Knicks and they're a very good image of their coach. Jalen Brunson had a tough first what couple games. He then finished the last four games of this series. 39 points, 47 points, 40 points, 41 points. Yeah, crazy. Controlled the whole game controlled. Also, I noticed that I think Tibbs might be going bald. Have you noticed that? You just noticed that I'm tibetal. I think he's going, I think, I, it's probably- He's been going bald for a while. It's probably reached the time, like I didn't notice it until just now because he's always had a little bit of hair on there.
Starting point is 00:04:11 He's got the, he's got the like couple, couple strands that are swooped over to give you the illusion of hair. No, yeah, I know. I've noticed it for seven years. But it's time, Tom. Yeah. Dock Rivers also. Dock Rivers bald?
Starting point is 00:04:24 Well, he's got the line and then there's just nothing on top Yeah, it's like it's it's almost like Like when when they basically, you know when manifest destiny and we started making states out west. All right We're just gonna do we should make this one a rectangle. Yeah, he's Utah Utah. He's you Border. Yeah. Yeah. No, but Tom Tom Tom is probably the goat of it's time to come home. Yeah, but it's also never but he's not gonna do it. Yeah, because he that's what he he doesn't care. He doesn't cares about basketball Yeah, that's it. If he's getting a haircut, that's less time that he's grinding film. Yeah, I did see one Nick's fan That was really impressed. This was I think maybe over the weekend
Starting point is 00:05:01 Tom Thibodeau was pumping gas at a gas station. Somebody took a picture of him. They're like, Oh my God, Tom Thibodeau, gritty guy even pumps his own gas. That's wild. Yeah. That man pumps his own gas. That's nuts. It's crazy. That must be a New Jersey Nick fan.
Starting point is 00:05:15 I guess so. Yeah. They don't pump their own gas. Yeah. It was, it was a great series. I wish we would have had another game. I liked it back and forth between New York and Philly too. I liked the fact that New York is all in. It's good. It's a good sports town when they have a good team that's
Starting point is 00:05:28 cooking. Oh yeah. So I'm excited for the city of New York. I feel bad for the city of Philadelphia. However, happy Tobias Harris is no longer your problem day, Max. Yeah. Max, also you said at the end of the game this one feels different. I agree with you, but I didn't hear your reasoning so unload on us um Well first of all this is the first off season where we have cap space and we have some room to make some a Difference in our line on James maybe LeBron James man, and it's a villain over which I don't necessarily Maybe LeBron James may and all I need to Villanova which I don't necessarily Obviously it would be nice to get Paul George or LeBron James and even if we don't like just using that Tobias money to go get guys like Dante like the role players that
Starting point is 00:06:14 The Knicks had who are really good that going get guys like that who can surround and beat and hit shots which to be fair Tonight all the role players were fantastic So I can't even really complain about that except for Tobias Harris zero points last game was a sixer and the Knicks role players Were not good. Yeah, they had five they had five points off the bench like your starters did every so like that was something that like Going into the series going like going into the night That's what that was like the silver lining like in the back of your head and it also feels different silver lining like in the back of your head and it also feels different like I know Joe LMB gets a ton of shit he had a great series he had a fantastic series minus all the WWE shit minus the WWE shit yes yes minus the WWE shit but he
Starting point is 00:06:57 was really good tonight closeout game that's a huge gripe that he's had against him in his whole career agreed is that he's been terrible in closeout games he was fantastic tonight 39 39 points, absolute dog. Third quarter like really kept us in it when Maxie couldn't really do anything. The end of the game Maxie kind of, Maxie was the one that hit the big end one to tie it up and we just made plays in this series that were very different than past Sixers losses. A lot of other times it was like, we choked the Celtics series, we choked the Hawks series,
Starting point is 00:07:30 and you go into the off season and be like, what are we gonna do, what are we gonna do? Like, last year we were like, we're gonna lose James Harden, we're gonna be a worse team next year. How are we gonna come back from this? Who was? Damn, he was on a really good path there. And it was like a rational reasoned Max that we were getting.
Starting point is 00:07:50 Sorry. And you know what? And you might. I don't think that we were I don't think that we were worse this year. Personal growth for Max, because in that moment, Max wanted to jump through the glass and strangle Hank with a microphone cord. Yeah. Max took a deep breath, composed himself. I think he's on the right track. Hank, please don't do that again. I apologize. Yeah, max took a deep breath composed himself. I think he's on the right track Hank. Please don't do that again I apologize. Sorry Max But it was also it also was a very funny you were incorrect. Yes
Starting point is 00:08:12 Well, yes Joel Embiid missed 50% of the season. So yes, technically they won less games this year than they did The year prior correct. So good job Hank didn't go as far in the playoffs Well, yeah when you're the seventh seed and you have to go to the two seed in the first round it's not exactly the same. So maybe you get a little bit of context one time Hank. Well maybe if you build a team that's not made out of glass and they wouldn't miss half the regular season then they could go and have a better season. These are all fair.
Starting point is 00:08:38 He's trying to cut your mic. He's trying to cut your mic. I actually think it's fair points on all sides. No it's not. This is a great conversation. Hank is upset that I'm acting rationally right now. Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike on a daily basis. Yeah. But do you understand like watching this series, there were so many things that were not six or like, yes, that happened. I agree with you. But the way that you're, I think you're a hundred percent right. And it's all positive stuff. Like I think that this is something that you can build off of your being. People want you to be sad and angry. And yes, there is that part of it. But with the cap space and the way they fought in this series, especially Joel and be like having injuries, illnesses, everything, and Tyrese Maxey kind of
Starting point is 00:09:33 taking that next step of like, Oh fuck, he is a killer. I agree with you. I, I, I, I, it sucks that the Sixers lost, but you're looking to next year being like okay this if we can add this one piece we might be in a really good spot next year. So I fair points and people want you to be you're being you're being real. You've always been real. Yeah no I don't like this is how I'm feeling right now. I could go on I like do this whole act of like getting really angry and just lie like this is how I'm feeling right now about it. When the podcast ends and you're going to sleep, scrolling Twitter and you see all the videos of Knicks fans walking out of your home stadium yelling fucking bead, is that going to anger you?
Starting point is 00:10:16 Yeah, it sucks, but yes, yes, that will anger me. What about- Is that what you want me to say? I was just curious. No, I was just- Just asking a question. Just curious. Journalists I was I was asking a question. Just curious journalists Max Jalen Brunson is
Starting point is 00:10:31 this Obviously it was hard for you to root against your Nova guys, but there were moments in this series where it felt like This relationship with Jalen Brunson might not recover because you were getting very angry. He does a really good job of being try young, of stopping in the lane, of getting contact, of finishing through contact. He's not one of those guys that one of my least favorite things that happens to the NBA is guys who constantly look for contact, but aren't trying to actually finish the basketball. He does both exceptionally well. How are you feeling about your Nova Knicks in that relationship? Josh Hart also just an absolute dog. He's never seen an offensive
Starting point is 00:11:11 rebound that he didn't think he'd get. How are you feeling? Um, it's, I, I need like two days. Yeah. And also like I was getting very mad about the Brunson plays, but it's also not necessarily me getting mad at Brunson. If he is such a savvy, acts like a guy who's played in the league for 15 years and knows the game so well, like, he knows he's getting those calls. He should continue to try to get those calls. But if the league has made an emphasis on taking away that play and then just
Starting point is 00:11:47 continuing to give it to him time and time again, it was very frustrating for me to see. Yeah. And I agree with you that Maxie does not get the same calls that Brunson gets. Brunson, I think the difference is that Brunson, he plays a little bit more under control when he's driving. He seems like he's got his feet under him. When Maxie drives sometimes he's so fast. Yeah, he'll run past it and he'll just start flying through the air. And it looks like he got hit by a car. I think I think that Tyrese Maxie kind of play the maybe we don't know maybe we don't know with control. But you forgot about that Matt, Hank, when you said they were worse. Kelly Oubre might have gotten hit by a car, but he also might not have gotten hit by a car. Correct. also might not have gotten hit by a car.
Starting point is 00:12:25 Correct. I don't know. And he also crashed his Lambo a couple of weeks ago. Schrodinger's wreck. But that one was real, I think. But Max, what I'm saying is that's something that he can work on. Because right now, he's just focused on getting the shot off,
Starting point is 00:12:37 getting to the basket. He'll learn with more time. And I think he'll eventually start to get those calls, because this was the postseason where Max stepped up. And it's like, okay, this is an emerging superstar right now. I think it's all. It's just the type of player to like Jalen Bronson is just so good and he his his body control and he knows exactly when a guy has is in a bad position. And like when we're talking to Caruso about it on Monday, his angles, like if you just shift a little bit,
Starting point is 00:13:05 he knows, OK, I have you, and I also can get you in this position where you're going to leave your feet. I'm going to get a foul, and I also can score. I think Maxie will learn some of that. But I think that that's, they're two different games, and I don't think that they should switch. Like Maxie, at times,. Yes looks out of control, but he knows
Starting point is 00:13:27 Exactly the positioning of like where he is in relation to the basket and where exactly he needs to put the ball on the glass For it to go in right there's so many times where like he will he'll put up a shot around the rim and it'll have zero Angle to it, but he knows exactly where to put it and what spin to put on it for it to go in so it's kind of like It's a little bit of controlled chaos that I think for maxi and I think that's part of what makes him Really good. He wasn't great tonight. He was not yet about yes, he was bad He looked a little lost in the beginning for sure. It was way off. Yeah, Hank actually winced when I said Emerging superstar and maxi and we forgot to say buddy healed and buddy healed buddy healed game he finally shot he finally shot and they went in the
Starting point is 00:14:10 buddy healed game so also campaign game camp well every game is a campaign game per campaign he tried to get his revenge against Villanova yeah you love that story line was thrown out there what a story line in the final they brought that up in the broadcast yeah yeah great storyline hey if you winced I brought that up in the broadcast. Jake's like... Yeah, great storyline. Hank, if you winced, I imagine that there's some listeners out there that winced as well. You do not think that Maxie is an emerging superstar. No, no, no. He is.
Starting point is 00:14:33 He's young enough. He's good. He's got potential. Maybe get him out of Philly and he'll really take the next step. I mean Tyrese Maxie's better than Jalen Brown for sure You would trade Jalen Brown for Tyrese maxi immediately trade-off for her right now Somebody photoshop max's face with a soul patch onto it onto that guy trade-off No
Starting point is 00:15:01 I define that trade yeah, Hank. I and I think he takes that trade that trade I think Brad Stevens take that trade. Yeah, maybe with their current contracts, but not off pure skill I mean max he's gonna get a Mac the max contract this summer Jalen Brown just signed like the biggest contract in NBA history and he was about to get traded. Yeah. Hmm Good good recap of the series Max. I'm proud of you. Yeah, that's just how that's just genuinely how I'm feeling right now. I'm sure some sixers fans will be, Oh, fake fan. Why aren't you? Why aren't you crying? Like, this is just how I'm feeling right now. It feels different. And it also feels, uh, like the right team won this series. I know
Starting point is 00:15:41 that you might disagree, but you know, we had the game two fiasco. We also had game five, which was crazy. And it feels like it all kind of evened out. And the Knicks were just the better team inside this series. Like it just, and you could say injury, you can say whatever you want. But I think that when you have that result where you're like, yeah, if they kept on playing, if they played a million seven game series, I think the next would take four before the six years every time in this iteration. No, every time if they play the series a million in this exact setup with imbede hurt sick everything. I just think the next word like a million times they get, okay, maybe not a million times. I'm sorry. I think if you, if it was a 10 series series, yeah, I think, I think the Knicks would win I'd say like six. I think they'd win. Yeah out of 10 seven games
Starting point is 00:16:29 Yes, I agree. I agree with a 10 series Four games before Yeah, but like probably but but to say probably do that series a million Also called the hyperbole 900 they do that series a million times, they're gonna win a million times is crazy. I did, I take back a million, just shut up about a million. It's called a hyperbole, dummy. 900,000 out of a million. Also, a 10 series series is a ridiculous format. Should be an 11 series series. Do you think the right team won this series? The Knicks played very hard.
Starting point is 00:17:00 The better team. The Knicks played very hard. I think the right team won this series. I'm sorry to say it it a million times is wrong. I strike a million times on the record When do we fucking do next played very very do semantics police here? It's crazy back me up I think part of it too. It's kind of sad to see as as it's unfolded, but I Think Max is just you know resigned to losing these games Yeah, he's numb he was a little green when he came on the podcast and he was excited and he wanted to, you know, it's over.
Starting point is 00:17:29 Be passionate, Philly fan. And now he just knows like he's going to lose every time he watched in the gambling cave. He's like, I always lose in here. Yeah, he's in here. He wants to games over. He's happy that he doesn't have to. Yeah, it's like, yeah, he wasn't going to win the title. So it's like, yeah, he wanted to win the series,
Starting point is 00:17:46 but the loss was coming eventually. Yeah, what used to be a bright, sunshiny day when he got to the playoffs, it turns out that light is a freight train. He did have a bounce in his step today, though. It was nice to see him bouncing around. He kind of floats when he's got that going. He does.
Starting point is 00:18:00 It was good. Yesterday, I literally spent from morning until I went to sleep Consuming all Tyrese maxi content. I would listen to every podcast that talked about him I watched every ESPN high like you And it was it was like so much fun to just be like yeah That's I mean we say it a million times if you're you sports suck Rooting for sports suck your team is going to win 99% of the time. So you got to enjoy the ride and you got to enjoy the big wins when they happen. Speaking
Starting point is 00:18:31 of Hank, we'll talk about the Bucks Pacers, but Hank, you have taken down the heat for one, easy win. Easy two wins. Yeah. Didn't even break a sweat. Didn't even break a sweat. Congrats. You held him to what? Under 90 points. He scored over 100 again. Just demolition.
Starting point is 00:18:53 Badged players played like the last 10 minutes of the game. Yeah, you're going to be fresh. Every other team in the East is like injured or you know, Giannis is out and Bede is out. Well, yeah, the whole Sixers team is out. No, that's what I'm saying. They're out of the playoffs. He wasn't talking about injuries. Yeah, Yannis is out of the playoffs as well. Got it.
Starting point is 00:19:14 You still going to be measured game by game. Sourpuss? Yeah, a little bit like cocky Hank. I'm positive vibes. I've always been positive vibes. I'm just you know calm cool collected, but but I Have I have an offer for you Hank you're gonna kill the East tank. What do you got because we do need cocky Hank back so I'm willing to negotiate on one point if
Starting point is 00:19:44 Cocky Hank does not make a return in this next series, sounds like ransom. He's negotiating. If he doesn't come back. Okay, I'll put it this way. If cocky Hank does come back. We won't release the Hank and Drake may t-shirt. Okay. Do you want that t-shirt out? I mean, that t-shirt out I Mean that pictures coming out and like no no no no that is no like I'm not updated There is it now a Bruins flag and a Leafs flag in the back I want to release that and and start that I will not will come back
Starting point is 00:20:18 Oh, that's fine But I know you're gonna hold it over my head no matter what like it's one of those things where if you're gonna do It this way if you're just I'm not like no We're gonna. I don't keep asking you to do stuff And if you don't do it, we'll release a picture just fucking release it no I want I listen doesn't negotiate with there I know I don't I I'm throwing the picture side. I just want cocky Hank because You know I know We all know the Celsius are going to the finals. You know the East is a cakewalk there we go
Starting point is 00:20:44 We all know the cells are going to the finals. You know, the East is a cakewalk. There we go Come on the cakewalk. It should be they should lose one. Maybe two games. What did I say original? Yeah Yeah, whatever he said seven and a half It's gonna be it should be three the over under should be three maybe one series next next game Which are you playing the Cavs of the Magic next? magic next yeah come on I where where do they even show these games NBA TV yeah like that we're playing the NBA TV they're barely even televised on the plane games yeah people like logging into their parents YouTube account oh man kid all right thanks back here's the thing Hank I fully understand when like all we want is cocky Hank for the rest of the Eastern conference playoffs. Once you get to the final, you can be, you can
Starting point is 00:21:29 deal with the finals however you want to, because that's a totally different beast. And there's a lot of really good teams in the West. The East is a joke right now. The East is a joke. And as much as it's fun as it is to beat up on Philly and Philly fans in the playoffs, it has kind of gotten a little little bit I guess stale just because it's happened you know over and over again yeah Knicks fans oh they're high they're riding high they got the whole shit it would be great for them to beat Indiana probably in like seven games and then get all excited everyone's hyped up the garden buzz and then just come out and smoke yeah we got the big apple against the big asshole. Yeah, come on. Yeah, I'm back
Starting point is 00:22:09 I want Knicks fans chanting we want Hank after they win game one against Indiana It is ridiculous that they I think it was after game two. They said we want Boston. Yeah, I mean I love No, but here's what here's what's crazy about how likeable this Knicks team is how hard they play is They have turned the city of New York into an underdog which is so hard to do next fans fucking suck now I'm talking about the team. I like I'm talking about the Knicks just the team not the fans The team is fun to watch they're easy to root for so they're gonna be a lot of casuals Are they that I think so? Yeah, they're they play hard. I don't think New York's easy to root for on any sport I think they'll I guess if they're playing the Celtics like people rooting for the Knicks and that yeah Yeah, I just like I mean Nick listen when the Knicks are good like New York is a basketball town first
Starting point is 00:22:59 And it's like they're never good right, but they're good now and oh And it's like they're never good. Right. But they're good now. And oh, not good. Yeah. He just fucking. It must feel so good for Hank. Like you're letting it all. Yeah. You're back. Like I see it on your face. You're back. Well, I just had you are who you are. Like the heat, the heat, the heat, the heat. I had our number. Yeah. That game two game when it's like, no, no, no. Like we, this can't be happening. I got rattled and then you know, the last two games back Game for us, so I said it had to be three blowouts just get through the series Yeah, did our guy Derek White has been insane everything just opens up
Starting point is 00:23:34 Yeah, the whole team has played well and porzingis don't even play him against whatever the cavericks Just let him rest fully healthy for Nix or Indiana. Wait, that was... The cavericks. Yeah, that's the mavericks in the calves? The cavericks. The cajics. The cajics.
Starting point is 00:23:56 The mavalier. The mageleers. The mageleers, yeah. It's good to have you back. Yeah, it feels really good. You know how Killer Whales, their dorsal fin curls over when they're in captivity. That was Hank Hank's Tokitae Yeah, he's just been flown across the country now his dorsal fins Hey, he was a dog with his tail between his legs now
Starting point is 00:24:14 He's wagging his tail again ready to go play some ball. You're like miss peaches. Yeah Let me take a kiss that tummy Good it feels like a weight just came off your shoulder because I understand the heat were the boogeyman for you. They're scary in the fact that nothing makes sense with the heat. But now you're dude, the magic, the calves, the exit. I mean, again, the the finals is a problem. I'm not I'm not looking past the finals whatsoever. That's going to be a whole different issue. We just got to hope that we get in there well rested, poor Zangas comes back healthy, and the next two series in the West are just seven games, seven games, seven games, seven games.
Starting point is 00:24:59 Yeah. You're rooting for injuries again. You're back to that. No, I'm not rooting for injuries. I absolutely want that on the record. I want every team at full health. Okay. You're back to that. Nope, I'm not rooting for injuries. I absolutely want that on the record. I want every team at full health. Okay.
Starting point is 00:25:07 Okay. That's big of you. Speaking of full health, the Bucks are out. Giannis never played in this series. It feels like he was pretty close. If they had gotten to a game seven, he might have. Dame came back and the Pacers, I mean the Pacers played with their food on, what was it, Tuesday night? Yeah, yeah. They thought they could just roll out and win that game without Damon Yannis there. And credit to the Bucs for showing fight there. But the Pacers are fun.
Starting point is 00:25:32 They run up and down. Halliburton's very fun. Yeah, they're just a fun young team. We have a lot of that going on in the playoffs right now. And now the Bucs, I feel like, have a lot of questions. A lot of questions. Yeah. And now the Bucs I feel like have like a lot of questions a lot of questions. Yeah, because the Bucs Yannis is still one of the best players in the NBA
Starting point is 00:25:50 But there's a No, I don't want to die. You know what? I'm not gonna get into it because the backers fans are Bucs fans and I don't Some people could say mm-hmm. Wait, why don't you text it to me and then I'll say okay. All right Okay in the meantime, I'll just say that they do have a lot of weird decisions They have to make because they don't know What they're gonna do with this new iteration of the Bucs team where they got Dame they sacrifice defense But then Dame gets injured Yannis gets injured so you don't really know what you have You don't know what pieces you truly need next year because there wasn't a big enough sample of work against the best teams To say where your team's really deficient. So who knows what they're gonna do
Starting point is 00:26:22 They're gonna throw a dart at the wall and figure out whether they want to run it back whether they want to make a big change I don't know. I don't know what the Bucks are gonna do But credit to the Pacers very fun team to watch But hey, Hank's not worried Pat Bev Delta ass Pat Bev bald a face Emotional Pat Babs and I'm just having to catch I thought that was just like a cool moment that even after they lost he was Like, you know sharing a catch with one of the fans. That's a fan for life now Yeah, they're like Pat Bev just giving him a souvenir threw me a chest pass. Yeah, I did Hal Burton said the reporter asked like hey I saw you and Pat Bev
Starting point is 00:26:59 Exchange words at the end like anything you want to share Just goes she came out to me said good series some people so PFT has something he wants to say. The other thing I wanted to say earlier about the Bucs is that some people could argue that the Bucs championship was a fluke because it was off the bubble and all the teams that had to play a long season deep into the next year got bounced and the Nets got injured and beating Chris Paul isn't that impressive. Some people would say. I disagree. With those people? Yeah, I disagree. You disagree with that?
Starting point is 00:27:27 That was a real championship. But they're now, the Bucs do have some questions because it felt like after they won their first title, it was like, oh, this is going to be the Bucs on top of the East for a while now. And they've had, again, injuries this year were very, very important because anytime you lose Giannis, and it was last year too, because Giannis got hurt in that, but two back-to-back first round exits for this Bucs team has a lot of people being like, well, what's going on here? Is Doc the answer? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:27:55 That's another thing we don't know. Probably not. I'm going to say probably he's not the answer. With Giannis, you always are going to be contending. But you went all in with this Dame Lillard thing. Again, the injuries, I'm not diminishing the injuries, but if you're a Bucs fan, you're definitely... They have some big questions that are coming up.
Starting point is 00:28:13 That's what I was saying earlier. If you're the Bucs GM, do you go based off the sample size you had of Dame and Giannis playing together this year and what that looked like, and then use that to figure out what you're going to do in the offseason, the moves you have to make. Well, I mean, because we didn't get to see them in the playoffs together. So you don't know how they stack up against the best teams
Starting point is 00:28:33 when you guys are both competing your hardest. Right. You kind of have to take a guess. And they also were, they had a disappointing, weird year, and they still were playing for the two seed in the last week of the season. So it's like put into perspective, they're still going to be okay with Giannis. Yeah. Because he's that fucking good. Early who's back the week is Roger Miller. Yeah. Well, credit to the Pacers by the way.
Starting point is 00:28:56 I think that's our first series win in like 10 years. I think that's I think that's Rick Carlisle's first win since he won it all with the Mavs. Wow. I'm pretty sure. I'll look that up. Yeah it's been it's been a minute. Yeah. But yeah there's gonna be a lot of Reggie Miller talk. Hank's right. Yeah. Pacers, Knicks. Pacers, Knicks. You think Doug Gottlieb was ever like, Reggie Miller needs to fix a mechanical flaw in his shooting. It's never gonna be good. I actually thought Doug Gottlieb got unfair hate for that. Well, he's the easiest target out there. Correct. Yeah. But yeah, anyone else than Doug Gottlieb. So if
Starting point is 00:29:34 you missed it, Doug Gottlieb basically was like, Caitlin Clark's shot is bad mechanics. Do you think they'll try to work on that? Doug Gottlieb is to get shit on no matter what. Every single professional athlete works on their mechanics constantly. Tom Brady like constantly is working, what's working on his mechanics. Tiger Woods has changed his swing three times. Ask that question isn't crazy. There might be a better way, a more efficient way to shoot, especially going right for Caitlin Clark. That's, it's not saying she's bad, she's incredible. I think the...
Starting point is 00:30:06 The Tigers changing the swing is what fucked them up. I think the implication was... They did it three times. Was that it was broken. Yeah, it's not broken. It's not broken at all. He should have phrased it better, that there could maybe be a way for her
Starting point is 00:30:17 to become even better of a shooter. Yeah, that would be a great way to... But every single professional athlete works on stuff like that constantly. So I don't know. You're right about Ricardo by the way. His first series win since then. 2011 over the LeBron's first year. Wow. Wait no I'm seeing right now he won some playoff series in 2021. Check that double check. Oh no maybe not. I see see first round. Oh yeah, win-loss, yeah yeah, you're right. I see six first round exits. Well I'm right.
Starting point is 00:30:47 Yeah. Six missed playoffs. Yeah, wow, that's a long time for a really good coach. So yeah, credit to the Pacers. They're fun, they're young, they're fun, they run. I love watching teams run. You miss shots on them, you're fucked. Also, Clippers, Mavericks, Luka, incredible game.
Starting point is 00:31:06 Kyrie, incredible game. I think we called those. Yeah. Credit to us for saying that Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic were going to play well. We know ball. We know. We know ball. And then the Clippers are stuck again, just being like we had the opposite James Harden.
Starting point is 00:31:23 That one, I thought maybe the extra rest, but- Nope, nope. Should have known better. It was classic James the opposite James Harden that one we I thought maybe the extra rest but no No should have known better his classic James classic James Harden I think Nick Wright had a stat that he has The most games in playoff history with ten shots and under ten points and it's like yeah It's like 30 of them. This is gonna be a legacy game. I'm calling it right now This is a James Harden legacy game and by that I mean, I hope he scores less than 10 points He's not he had the I think the clip I think the Mavs are gonna win this series in Lucas so good if James Harden goes out there and drops eight points
Starting point is 00:31:52 That's cement some as the greatest playoff not care of all time Yeah, that that one clip of Kyrie just like cruising through everyone so easy like he Kyrie just like cruising through everyone. So easy. Like he, it was so crazy to watch because Kyrie's such a good ball handler. His body was somehow out of control, but his ball handling stayed in control the whole time. Yeah, he knows exactly what he's doing.
Starting point is 00:32:14 He operates it like, he processes things at such a fast speed. Right. It's insane, like you can't even, if you watch him operate in real time, you have no idea how he gets the ball in the basket. It was so chaotic and then yeah, and it was it still worked and yeah, I love watching Luca I mean he's he he he does lead the league in pitching at everyone. Yeah, but that's just part of his game
Starting point is 00:32:34 I think he's one of those guys that needs to just yell at fans yell at refs to get going Yeah, he'll yell at the ref after he makes a wide-open three-pointer. He'll yell at anyone I try to figure out what he's screaming about. I can't figure it out Yeah, but he just he likes to have it be him against the world. Yeah. So that game six and also the Mavericks or sorry, the, the magic Cavaliers game six is Friday night. So we'll see if we can finish those series. It does kind of suck that we're getting to the Kentucky Derby Saturday. We're only going to have one NBA game. Yeah, that's tough. Preparers for us.
Starting point is 00:33:06 Yeah, we have the the the Nuggets in the in the Wolves playing hockey game 11. I can get seven. Hank, should we talk about it? Yeah, have a conversation. So the Bruins were up three one in the series, huh? Then Austin Matthews not playing. What happened last year in the first round? What were you guys up? The Bruins were up three to one, I believe. Yeah. Fights tweeted out the stat
Starting point is 00:33:30 that they're Oh and six in their last closeout, six closeout games. But the Leafs are two and nine in their last 11 game sevens in the road. Right. But that means they've won twice. Yeah. Correct. Oh and six. Oh and six in two years is almost impossible. That's pretty crazy hard That's really crazy shocking and with all I think I think the roads are gonna win this game We too because I think are you mean the house? I'll be in the building. Wow There you go. That's all you need Hank did you want the Bruins to win this game? Of course question good question. Yes, that one of the Bruins is I heard a rumor
Starting point is 00:34:04 I heard a rumor that before the game started, Hank said... No, no, no Hank. I'm being a journalist. Ain't no phone with the rabbit got the gun buddy. Oh shit! Buck crap Max is up your ass. You got buddy pal. He's got time. All his teams are eliminated. Sixer, I mean the Phillies are the best team in major leagues right now. So that a fact there the rumor 21 11 Hold on. Hold on PFT. I don't I just want to Because this is this Hank's dream scenario. He's got you know, it's getting down his feelings braves are in first place Yeah, just so well, so we're clear what division of that Also in the different in the Phillies division. Yeah, they're and not. We have more wins and more losses, so it's different.
Starting point is 00:34:47 Best team in baseball. So Hank, there was a rumor that before this game started. Started by Max, so it's like how. Wait, wait, wait. Can I fish? Before this game started, Hank said, would it be wrong if I wanted the Bruins to lose this game so I could go to game seven? Factor fiction.
Starting point is 00:35:10 That, hey, can I, can I defend you for a sec? Please. Sounds like you were just asking a question. That's all I was doing. Yeah. And he didn't say he was rooting. He said, would it be wrong? We were talking to a group of fans and there was I think an intern I forget
Starting point is 00:35:26 who was around and I was trying to test like what his sports fandom was like. Right. It was kind of like a quiz like pop quiz. There's an intern around. So could you answer that question? Of course it's bad. Yeah. It's horrible. You would never do. So right now you're upset that you're going to go to game seven on Saturday Yeah, I was I was ready for the Bruins to win that game. I was upset when they lost I was upset when the Leafs scored I would I I wish we were live for when the leafs scored that second goal. He was like Hearts your initial reaction was like yes, no, what'd you say? yeah, no no no no no no no hard of hearts your initial reaction was like yes, no What'd you say? Oh, no?
Starting point is 00:36:11 No, I Was the only one watching the game shut up max you're watching like everyone else is focused on the the next sixers I was actually watching the Bruins locked in yeah, you were locked in to see if you go to game seven That has nothing to do with that such a coincidence It's a coincidence max like I will be in Boston is a Saturday night we do have a great partner game time that will be helping me get in the game I'm going to promote the company Hank it's a your a company man work always does the company first when did when did you first inquire about getting tickets to game after the game really confirmed I'll show you the text after the point one second. That was put back on the clock after well after okay hmm
Starting point is 00:36:52 interesting Okay, only I had one other thing go look up your text 944 p.m.. Okay the game ended at 9 47 p.m.. No I'm looking at it right now where let me see computer froze hold on I can find it okay Max can you look it up yeah let me pull this up real quick not 9 47 p.m. yeah 9 47 hmm so you might have inquired a little early there nope there Joseph wall was awesome Their goalie was so good. Yeah, we took him like a period to even get a shot on goal, but he played well
Starting point is 00:37:34 Let's see. Let's see. Let's see Hank came seven Final the Leafs posted a final at 945 so he might be right Of course I'm right Wow Hank He's I think he's I think he's not guilty Thank you Yeah So that was the first thing on his mind Yes that's true good point good point he couldn't have done it faster But wait Hank what time did you say Hank? You're absolutely right Max you couldn't have done it faster. But wait, Hank, what time did you say, Hank? You're absolutely right, Max. You couldn't have done it faster.
Starting point is 00:38:06 I think Hank said 944. He said 944. Oh, I thought you said 947. No, no, I said 947. Hank said 944. What time did you send the text? 944. Oh, so yeah, you're guilty. Guilty, guilty, guilty. The game was over. They had to make a fucking whole ass graphic and cheat it.
Starting point is 00:38:23 You scored a goal. That's when the Bruins scored a goal in 945? whole ass graphic and cheat it. You scored a goal. That's when the Bruins scored a goal in 9.45? No, they scored, yeah, they scored a goal. At 9.45. You're gonna make me do more work? No, I'm on it right now. Boston Bruins 9.44. No, that's your PFC's line. I swear to God, look at Big Cat. Well, there was 0.1 seconds left.
Starting point is 00:38:40 Yeah, yeah, the game wasn't over. The game wasn't over. Big Cat, right there. All right. Yup, 9.44. 9.44. Bruins tweeted out. Yeah, it wasn't over the game wasn't over big cat right there. All right. Yep 944 944 Bruins tweeted out. Hey now that liar for that knows liar I asked you specifically about the point one second and you lied. I waited till whatever Okay, so Hanks very excited the Bruins are going to game seven I'm excited. I'm excited to have a chance to advance
Starting point is 00:39:05 Bruins got to play well. Reverse the curse. Oh, Max, one last thing. Do you have anything to say to Jerry O'Connell? He was all up your ass. Yeah, no, he was a master class that he put on me tonight and I don't I didn't really know how to respond to it. I didn't know he was an X-Fan number one, but he's been on my ass and congrats to him
Starting point is 00:39:36 Boy friction boy, wait, we got this one was my favorite He also, he also Jerry is so committed to this show. He even used Max's little league pronunciation of his name in this one. little you smile using it as one word is also taking the game to a new level people are also tweeting it tweeting at me that on his talk show today that he was talking shit on good that's awesome I never saw the clip of it I'm imagining his fans that go to see Jerry Hoke Isle's talk show and he's taking like 30 seconds to just rub one in Max Delente's face and they're just so confused
Starting point is 00:40:28 But Jerry's loving every second. Yeah, if someone could find that clip, is that a new small? Hank that's that's what you have to look forward to You verse Jerry. Oh my god. Yeah, be all up your ass. They gotta get past the Pacers We might have to get him out here. Yeah, you got to get past to every airplane. The Kajik. I think if you combine the teams you probably win. Yeah. This cocky Anko just building them up, build them up, build them up. All right. He's not picking up. He's probably just, he's probably running around the streets. All right. We'll have them on though. If play the if the Celtics play Knicks last thing I had Dion Sanders should probably stay off Twitter. Yeah
Starting point is 00:41:11 the thing about Dion is when when Colorado is winning and Everything's working. He's super entertaining. He gets people talking about college football. Yeah, which is good. Yeah new rivalries forming. That's good football, which is good. New rivalries forming, that's good. He also has been going after former players on Twitter, which is not a good look for a coach. And then what I didn't like is he's now like he'll backtrack his way into like using a quote from the Bible that then also justifies why he's hating on this like 19 year old kid. Right. And we want, he, Dion wants to be treated like a player sometimes, right? Like the man player mentality. Yeah. He's got the player mentality, but you also have to be a good person to the players
Starting point is 00:41:55 that you come across that you might not even like he inherited that guy as the guys that's on the team. And then to be like cyber bullying him over his stats and stuff like that. Yeah. Deion should probably stop doing that. Yeah, I mean we are Deion fans. People know that. We're biased in that respect. So when we say that he's going too far and should stay off Twitter, you know that he's
Starting point is 00:42:16 gone probably well too far. Way too far. Should stay off Twitter. Way too far. Just one of those things like what are you winning right here Deon? You're not there's nothing to gain From doing that. I understand defending your son. Yeah, but other than that let your sons do it Like like I think she'd or Sanders like he well actually, you know, that was a little weird, too Because he was talking because he's the coaches son. He's talking shit to a former player
Starting point is 00:42:41 Yeah, I'm like, oh you must have been mid because I don't even remember you. That seems like it's stupid too. Making it clear that the two of them had talked about this guy. Right, right. Yeah. So yeah. And that kid was one of the guys that tried to stick around. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:56 And tried to adapt to Deion's system, the new regime. And he tried to make it work and apparently Deion just won't give him the time of day. Which that's also reality in college football. If the coach doesn't think that you're good enough to play, you're going to be treated less than nothing. and apparently Deion just won't give him the time of day, which that's also reality in college football. Correct. If the coach doesn't think that you're good enough to play, you're going to be treated like less than nothing. Might as well be invisible, but then to have that same coach dunk on you online later,
Starting point is 00:43:14 that seems like it should be beneath any college coach. Yeah, he should stay off Twitter and maybe learn the lesson that it's not, nothing, you don't win on this. You lose. He lost. He lost in that exchange. All right, anything else?
Starting point is 00:43:30 Oh, Justin Fields might return kicks. Yeah. Bill Pulley in somewhere is just smiling. I told you. I hope he doesn't. He would be electric, but I hope he doesn't, because why would he ever do that? I think, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:43:43 He's not. Just get the ball in his hands. I't know, maybe. He's not. Just get the ball in his hands. I like watching him run. He's not. I still think he's going to play at some point this season for the Steelers. But even if he doesn't play, being a backup and being like, I'm not returning kicks, because what will happen
Starting point is 00:43:57 is Justin Fields will return a touchdown, and then he will be boxing to return in kicks. See, Cordorale Patterson. Yeah. So the one thing I'm looking forward to a lot about this, actually there's a lot of things I'm looking forward to about this NFL season. I wish it started tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:44:11 I agree. I'm starting to get the itch. I can't wait for it. I haven't been this excited in years for the NFL season. I'm starting to get really close to sending out my first I Can't Wait for College Football tweet. Yeah. It has to come organic.
Starting point is 00:44:22 It has to be when I'm just daydreaming and just thinking like, damn, I can't wait for this. So one thing I'm really excited about though, is with the new kickoff rules, watching teams absolutely screw it up. Oh yeah. And like everyone's gonna think that they've got a new system,
Starting point is 00:44:36 a new way that they can take advantage of the new kickoff and half of them are going to fail hilariously. Yes. And that's what I'm looking forward to watching. Yes, it's gonna be great. Some coach thinking that it's cooking. It's gonna beiously. Yes. And that's what I'm looking forward to watching. Yes. It's going to be great. Some coach thinking that it's cooking. It's going to be great. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:47 OK. Happy we got cocky Hank back. Happy Max is dealing with this somewhat well. I'm happy Max isn't sad. Are you sad? I mean, I'm definitely sad. But we've seen sad Max before, and this pales in comparison. It's different.
Starting point is 00:45:04 It's different. It's different. And I'm happy. Max earlier was was like would it be bad if I wanted the sixers to lose this So this would be over is that true? That is not true. What time did you say that? I think you did say at one point. I just want to get it I just want to be out of here. I was talking about your like the physical space occupying Yeah, he was probably I hate that game game I will never have a win in that in that you want to be here you have had wins there name one that's a good question over to Paul that was the worst that was the worst that was the worst win in the
Starting point is 00:45:42 history of when oh you beat the Cowboys in there when that's the only game I had one game in my mind. That's the only one what about when you guys took a lead in the NLCS That lost yeah, but you had wins Not in that room to get there not in that room Yeah, actually that room's been really bad because I was even thinking like the series the Cowboys games You only know the Braves was old office. Yes big dom game. They lost that game by a lot Oh forgot a lot Alright, let's not play remember that was the Niners Evo would just run
Starting point is 00:46:18 Evo Thought they won the big dom game really good interviews coming up Yeah We have us so Randy Moss talking Kentucky Derby Keith Yandel one of our also good friends talking some puck and then we have a Weird brainstorming session for fire fest that I thought was very yeah It takes a lot of a lot of twists and turns we need some help we need I need some help with my words And I also we need some help on an idea and how to make it funny Let's kick it to ourselves.

Starting point is 00:49:00 No. Because I don't either. It's not what I'm into right now. What are you into? Talking. Yeah. The Fall what I'm into right now. What are you into talking? Yeah The stall guy only in theaters now. We did PG-13 may be inappropriate for children under 13. Okay, here he is Randy Moss Okay, we now welcome on a very very very very special guest he's one of our Favorite guests long time. I mean we say this every year, Randy Moss, but, uh, the, the, I think you were probably the first three months apart in my take history. You
Starting point is 00:49:31 had, you, you had no obligation to give two idiots a shot and hop on this podcast as it was kind of a bit at first. And then we became friends, but I can't tell you every single time we get to Kentucky Derby week the amount of people who tweet me being like Randy Moss right. Randy Moss Randy Moss. So it's great to see you. It is Kentucky Derby week. I have a question that's not horse related first Super Bowl week. Did Boomer try to steal our bit. They steal our bit. Boomer and Gio had no damn idea who they were getting. Right. I was there to help promote horse racing. They asked me to come and all that. They thought they were getting Randy Moss, the
Starting point is 00:50:16 football player. And who wouldn't want Randy Moss, the football player on Super Bowl week, as opposed to the OG white ball, Randy Moss. But yeah, it was, it went viral. It went viral that week when they realized at the last minute who they were going to be getting. So it was pretty, pretty funny. That wasn't a bit then. I wasn't sure.
Starting point is 00:50:36 I wasn't sure if they were just going to do the- No, they know. Yeah. Because I think the first time we had you on, we might've asked you only like Minnesota Vikings and New England Patriots related questions. But yeah, it's good to have you back on. The very first time I was on we played Racehorse or porn star. Yeah you were really good at that game. You were really good at that game. You knew your porn stars. Yeah you're a porn guy. And after that my wife told me you will
Starting point is 00:51:00 never go on Pardon My Take again. And now she's a big fan. So you want her over. It's a beautiful story. It's a beautiful story. All right. So it is Kentucky Derby week. Let's start with the guy that looms over everything. Every single Kentucky Derby week. It is Bob Baffert who will not be involved. His horse, Moot, who probably would be, you could tell me would be very much in the running to win this race will not be there. Uh, what's the, I read a story last night that essentially was like, Bob Baffert just isn't sorry enough. And uh, so you tell us from your angle, what, what's happening and what, what will happen
Starting point is 00:51:41 going forward? And is there that feeling that not an asterisk, but there's a horse out there, a three year old that could compete in this race that won't be in this race? So Bob Baffert had a couple of horses that would have been in this year's Kentucky Derby in a normal year. Booth won the Arkansas Derby. He probably would be the third betting choice, the third favorite if he were here. And he also had another horse who had finished second imagination in the San Andean dirty. So he would have had two horses kind of front and center. And we know, we all know that because of the Medina spirit, disqualification in 2021, Churchill down ruled him off for two years, right? That was the deal.
Starting point is 00:52:22 Two years, if he had no more medication violations after two years, then he'd be welcome back to Churchill Down. And then last July, suddenly kind of out of the blue, Churchill Down said that they were extending the ban from two years to three years. As a justification, they cited a comment that Baffert made on Fox in an interview saying that if he had to do anything over again, he would do everything exactly the same. And that apparently angered Churchill Downs. In my opinion, the reason why Churchill Downs extended the ban, they didn't tell me this,
Starting point is 00:52:58 I'm reading the tea leaves here. This is the 150th anniversary of the Kentucky Derby. It means a lot to Churchill Downs, this 150th anniversary of the Kentucky Derby. It means a lot to Churchill now, this 150 anniversary. I think they realized that if Baffert had come back to the Kentucky Derby this year, he would be one of the main stories. Bob Baffert being back would almost overshadow the storyline of the 150th Kentucky Derby.
Starting point is 00:53:26 And I didn't think that after all was said and done, they wanted that to happen. And I don't think they wanted the possibility of Bill Karstangen, the head of Churchill Down, presenting the trophy for the 150th Derby to Bob Baffert in the winner's circle. Okay. That makes sense in theory, but if you're looking at it from a perspective of what's going to get the most buzz going, what's going to get the most people to tune in, what's going to be the biggest story, you could argue that Bobby Baffert coming back, the bad boy returns, it's like a wrestling storyline, bad boy returns, 150th anniversary, if he
Starting point is 00:54:01 does happen to win, that feels like that is a win for horse racing overall if that happens. I think you're absolutely right. And what wins for horse racing, in my opinion, is the best horses being in the Kentucky Derby. And this year, all the best three-year-olds are not in the Kentucky Derby. So that's where I come down on it also. I also love the idea that this dynamic between Bob Baffert and Churchill Downs is just exactly that detention scene in Breakfast Club. Where, where he just says one thing like Yeah, all you have to do is say sorry and really mean it and he'd be back
Starting point is 00:54:33 Yeah, and now this thing was in court up until like a week ago because the owner of move Challenged the extra year suspension not Baffert. It was Ambers Zedan who owned Medina Spirit and he also owned Move. Ambers Zedan pointed out that he took Churchill Downs at their word that if Baffert had no more medication violations, that they would welcome him back after two years. And he said, I went out and bought $10 million worth of horses on the assumption that Baffert would get to train my horses if they made it to the Kentucky Derby. And then I got the rug pulled out from underneath him. Yeah. Um, but he filed that lawsuit very, very late in the game, just four weeks before the Derby, right after the horse won the Arkansas
Starting point is 00:55:19 Derby. So, um, yeah, I think the timing is what did him in more than anything. Yeah. So it does lead us to an interesting Kentucky Derby. Like you said, not all the best three year olds are in this race. And I was looking at it last night. Fierceness, who is going to be the favorite on Kentucky, he's a favorite right now. Micropoli, shout out Micropoli, our guy who helped us get Rick Pitino on the podcast.
Starting point is 00:55:42 But Fierceness looks like he's a class above everyone else in terms of speed. Like the speed ratings for a lot of these horses are just not what it doesn't look like what a Kentucky Derby should normally look like. Is this a situation where fierceness, like you have to include them in your bets and this horse is just better than everyone else. If all the horses run their best races, fierceness wins the race hands down. Talent wise, fierceness is probably three or four lengths better than any other horse in the field.
Starting point is 00:56:16 But right now you mentioned that fierceness is the favorite. I hope this music's not too loud behind me. I'm in the new paddock by the way. No, you're good. It looks good. See? Yeah, I always want to give you guys up close and personal. it's not too loud behind me. I'm in the new paddock by the way. No, you're good. It looks good. Yeah. I always want to give you guys up close and personal. I remember when I got under the Saul webbing at the Breakness and you got to see mage. Yes. That's fantastic. So that's why I'm in the paddock. Anyway, back to back to fierceness. The only drawback about fierceness who is right
Starting point is 00:56:41 now an eight to five favorite, is that he's had a couple of races on his form where he was terrible. The Holy Ball, the race before the Florida Derby, he had a little bit of an excuse, but he's still underperformed. And there's that inconsistency in his form that is making a lot of people look elsewhere, especially at the eight to five price. And he's running 17th in the 17th position, right?
Starting point is 00:57:10 Yeah, but that's good. Okay. He's a speed horse and he doesn't want to be down inside where his hand is forced. So if they could have picked their post position, they would have picked, you know, 16, 17, 18, somewhere out there. So that worked perfectly for them. He's had a scratch. He was 17. Now he's 16. Nope. There may even be more another scratch or two. Who knows? But they wanted to be outside. So that's a good thing. But if you did on paper and I know, you know, the Kentucky Derby, you don't often get to say this on On paper, it looks essentially like a two-horse race
Starting point is 00:57:46 between Fierceness and a horse called Sierra Leone. And right now, Sierra Leone is six to one. Right. So I think Fierceness is the most likely winner, but the discrepancy of eight to five and six to one is very, very tempting, given Fierceness's inconsistency from the past. All right. So you mentioned, so he's going to be running out of 16, but he will be wearing
Starting point is 00:58:10 the 17 silks, right? Correct. 17 Saddle Town number. Well, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Yes. 17 Saddle Town number. Correct. Okay. So we are superstitious guys and you probably know this as well. 17, the number 17 has never won the Kentucky Derby. number 17 has never won the Kentucky Derby. 44 years, never won the Kentucky Derby. How does that not play into this, Randy? It's nothing whatsoever to do with it.
Starting point is 00:58:33 Come on. It has to be something. It has to be something. It's, it's just coincidence. 18 is one. Yeah. Right. 18 would be worse than 17. 19 is one. Yeah 20 has won Exactly rich strike war what 21 or 22? I think you were 21. You're proving why 17 is unlucky Yeah, you're you're making our point for us 44 is not a 44 years not a coincidence You guys are gonna hit me on jinxes. Yes The fact that he's wearing 17, but he's he's racing out of 16th position No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
Starting point is 00:59:06 no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, 17 is badly overdue. Oh, I don't know about that. You're trying to time the market. Yeah, I don't know about that. Advisors say not to do that. I think that's a bad idea. I think that's a bad idea.
Starting point is 00:59:30 All right, so Sierra Leone, the second favorite, talk to me about this horse because this horse, I watched a couple races that this horse has run and the MO for this horse is gonna slow start, finish strong, which isn't always easy when it comes to Kentucky Derby with the amount of horses in the field and the traffic that could be there.
Starting point is 00:59:54 So are you concerned at all about the fact that traffic is gonna be a problem? I think it might be a little muddy. You never want the mud in your eyes. Are you worried at all about Sierra Leone coming from the back in a huge, huge field? No.
Starting point is 01:00:08 Okay. No, I'm not worried at all. And here's why. First of all, if you go back historically and you look at the Kentucky Derby, it's like go back and look at the last 30 years if you have access to the charts and things like that. And this whole mantra that has developed over the years of the 20 horse field in the Kentucky Derby, making it a rough race, making it a crap shoot, the best horse doesn't win, they get stopped in traffic, it's all BS. Probably 70 to 80% of the horses that win the Kentucky Derby, if you go back and look at the charts and you ask yourself in hindsight, was this horse the best horse in the race? Looking back in hindsight, it's usually yes,
Starting point is 01:00:52 despite the traffic, despite the running style. Part two to that, there should be a fairly contentious early pace. It almost always is in the Kentucky Derby. And when that happens, it spreads out the horses, right? They're going kind of fast early, so it creates more gaps all the way back to the last place horse. There's more of a gap between first and last when the pace is kind of fast. And that means a little less traffic for the come from behinders back there to have to navigate through to get to the front. And you've also got 20 of the best jockeys in the United States and some of the best jockeys in the world. So typically they can find a way to do it. The cream usually rises to the top. So in terms of the jockeys, what's one jockey
Starting point is 01:01:39 that you're looking at this week that will get the most out of their horse and provide good value maybe on whatever the betting line closes at? There might be a long shot, but they've got a great jockey that might work their way into the top three. Never ever, ever handicapped the jockeys in the Kentucky Derby because they're all good. They're all good. The difference between Joel Rosario and Ired Ortiz and Tyler Gafleon and Jose Ortiz and Flavien Pratt is so minute, right? There may be a very slight difference in between one and the other if they get into a particular situation in a race, but you never can predict that that situation is going to transpire
Starting point is 01:02:20 or not. They're so evenly matched that you just have to go into it with the assumption that you're going to get a good ride, the horse is going to run up to its potential. And just focus on the horse and not the rider. Okay. Now, I think we do this every single year, Randy. We try to talk ourselves into a Japanese horse who won in the UAE or the Saudi Arabia Derby. We do this every single year. So this year, Forever Young, what are we telling ourselves? I'm sick of basically being sold on these Japanese horses flying all the way around the world and then coming here and everybody
Starting point is 01:02:58 like, watch out for them. It never works out. But tell me how this is going to be different this year. Well, there's really only been one of them that had a legitimate chance and that was last year of verma soda got a and you know, he ran six. He ran. Okay, he put himself in good position at the top of the stretch. I thought he was going to be good enough to win and he wasn't so, you know, the sample size is not all that big. This year, Forever Young is the most accomplished of any Japanese horse that's ever come over here. He's a perfect five for five lifetime. But I've got two concerns about
Starting point is 01:03:37 Forever Young that would keep me from being super confident in him, right? Talent wise, he's as good as any of them except Pearson. But he traveled 5,000 miles to get from Japan to Saudi Arabia. He won the Saudi derby. Then he hopped over to Dubai, not very far. He won the UAE derby. Then he travels 7,000 miles to get here. After he won the UAE derby, his Japanese trainer, through a translator, was quoted as saying that when he made the trip from Tokyo to Saudi Arabia, he did not travel well. The travel bothered him. And it took him a while to get back into his rhythm. With this source, the travel over was delayed by a week because of logistical problems from Dubai to the United
Starting point is 01:04:26 States, right? He had to fly from Dubai to Frankfurt, from Frankfurt to Chicago, Chicago, a 42-hour quarantine, into a van, six hours from Dirk to Lounk. If he didn't travel well from Saudi, from Japan to Saudi, it concerns me that, you know, he's going to be a little bit less than 100% because of the gravel all the way in here. The other thing, the trainer seems to be borderline obsessive about keeping this horse out of this kickback spray in his face. And if he tries to do that in the Kentucky Derby, with 20 horses, the only way to do it would be to take him to the far outside. And in that case, he would have an impossibly wide trip and he'd be completely screwed. So because of those two factors,
Starting point is 01:05:18 I'm not as confident about Forever Young running well as I was last year with German Sodergatke. But he is a very, very talented, very, very determined and accomplished trade boy. Another crazy story is that Jason Worth actually owns one of these racehorses, or he owns at least like 10% of one of the horses, right? Is it Dornach or Doornach? Yes, Dornach. Dornach breaks from post-position number one. He'll probably set the early pace.
Starting point is 01:05:42 Yeah, Jason is just now sort of getting started in a horse business, just dabbling in it. And you know, it's such a long shot for someone to just buy a few horses and not spend an astronomical amount of money. And yet to have a horse in the Kentucky dirty. Yeah. He's over. He's I talked to him yesterday back there in the barn area.
Starting point is 01:06:00 He's over the moon about it. Really good guy. And he's, uh, he realizes how, how lucky he was gotten right off the bat. Yeah, that's over the moon about it. Really good guy. He realizes how lucky he's gotten right off the bat. Yeah, that's crazy to just get started. I think he's been doing this for like three years and he has a horse in the Derby in the third year. It's insane. Yeah. Now, is the horse, is it a Philly?
Starting point is 01:06:16 No, it's a horse who actually happens to be a full brother, meaning the same sire and the same damn as mage last year's Kentucky Derby winner. It's never happened that two horses out of the same sire and mayor both won the Kentucky Derby. So this would make history of Dornek could manage to go wire to wire from the inside. But the odds are demanding brothers. Yeah. Is that, is there any, is there any nepotism concerns? Like, do you think that the, that mage maybe told him like, Hey, this is how you want to run, run the race. Are we worried about that? The nepotism with Seattle slew throughout the years has been ridiculous. Yeah. Maybe they hooked up a little FaceTime with mage and, and Dornak here in the week
Starting point is 01:06:59 before the contender. All right. Dumb question. Do they, do they know their brothers? No. Like if they see each other, they like, yo, you look like me. Well, who knows? Right? No, no, no one has any idea if horses would actually recognize that. There are some people who believe and I can't argue with them necessarily. I mean, you can't factor this into your hand at that, but there are some people who believe that horses can be in the paddock, right? You can, before they even get to the racetrack. And you can have eight or 10 horses together in the paddock
Starting point is 01:07:32 and they're getting ready to, which is where I am, obviously, right here, by the way. And they're getting ready to go out and run in a race. And some people believe that one horse can look at another horse and say, oh shit, I can't beat that horse. Mentally weak. I love it. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:07:49 Yeah. I know. Well, what about- Who knows? I believe that now. I absolutely believe that. Can horses, horses can have friends. I know that.
Starting point is 01:07:57 Can they have enemies like rivals? Are there horses that look at another specific horse and be like, I fucking hate that horse. I'm going to run faster. You know, this is, it's funny that you would say that. When I first started coming to Kentucky, I took a trip to some farms in Lexington. And I went to a Spinthrift Farm, a big farm, and they had a firm, the Triple Crown winner there,
Starting point is 01:08:21 who was a very entertaining horse. He was said to be one of the most intelligent horses, good horses that ever lived, right? A very, very smart horse. He actually used to play a game where the tour people would be up, including me, would be up at the fence watching him in the back of the grassy paddock. And then he would come charging full speed right at the people. And it looked like he was going to just run right into the fence and he would wait till they scattered and ran away. And then he would come to a screeching stop and just really entertained him to be able
Starting point is 01:08:51 to scatter the people like that. Well his sire was in the paddock next door, exclusive native. And the guy that took care of them told me that they hated each other. I love it. And they would try to fight over the fence, and they would sometimes race each other up and down the fence line, but they did not like each other at all. So it was like a little, what do you call that, oedipus? Oedipus complex.
Starting point is 01:09:17 Oedipus complex. Yeah. I like that. No love lost between the two. All right, so talking about the whole field, give us some long shots that you are looking at, maybe including it in your exotics. I I'll throw one out there. They maybe you could tell me is stupid, but uh, the horse mystic, Dan, just looking at the speed figures is probably the second fastest horse. If they all ran
Starting point is 01:09:40 their top speed that they've run in the past. Is that stupid to include him in anything? Wait until you see the racetrack condition on Saturday. The speed figure you're talking about was in Arkansas at Oaklawn Park at a race called the Southwest Stakes where it was a muddy racetrack and he absolutely ran a freakishly good race coming down the stretch. He came back next start on a fast racetrack in the Arkansas Derby, and wasn't nearly as effective. Now, that's not a lot of evidence, just, you know, two races to say that Man this Horse loves a muddy racetrack. But it's supposed to rain. Friday, it's supposed to rain maybe
Starting point is 01:10:22 Saturday morning. If the track is muddy, as for the Kentucky Derby, and, you know, Mystic Dan is sitting on the board at 35 to 1, you could do a whole lot worse than to make that assumption. Okay, and then what else? What other horses should we have our eyes on where you're like, okay, this horse is something you want to include? Yeah, two of the mid-price longshots that I like. 16 to 1 right now in the betting
Starting point is 01:10:47 is a horse called Just a Touch, who was second to Sierra Leone in the bluegrass. And he's a horse that's getting better and better and better. He's only had three races, just like Justify a few years ago. So he's very inexperienced, theoretically improving. And then at, he's 16 to one. And then at 17 to one, there's a horse called Honor Marie, who was second in the Louisiana
Starting point is 01:11:09 Derby, who had already shown last year that he loves Churchill Down. And he's looked really good here in workouts in the morning. Just in touch is up close to the face. Honor Marie will be back there with Sierra Leone toward the back of the pack. But both those horses, I think they have a back there with Sierra Leone toward the back of the pack. But both those horses, I think, have a really good chance to sneak into the trifectas and the superfectas. So the horse that right now has the third best odds, maybe, I don't know what the scratches
Starting point is 01:11:37 are, but Catching Freedom is right now, I think, eight to one. I don't know if that's current, but we haven't talked about him. He seems to be right in the conversation here. What do you think about him? He ran a really good race to win the Louisiana Derby, right? Honor Marie was second. He beat Honor Marie by a length in there. They were last and next to last in the early part of the race.
Starting point is 01:11:57 So just like Sierra Leone, those horses will all be way back at the back of the pack. I think they found out something in that race about catching freedom. He didn't break very well and he had never been that far back before. And that was the best race of his life. And I think, I think they found out that's the way he wants to run. Uh, but he's still going to have to improve, I think from that race, uh, into the Kentucky Derby. But no, he's, he's definitely not without, not without a chance.
Starting point is 01:12:25 So you're in the new paddock right now. I know that they've changed the track up a little bit. They nerfed the track. They made it softer. They're trying to not have a repeat of what happened last year. What changes have been made to the actual surface of the track? It's the composition of the track. It's percentages of sand, silt and clay. They bought some new equipment to take care of the track a it's percentages of sand, silt and clay. They bought some new equipment to take care of the track a little bit better. One of the things that's going to be interesting, I think, is that there's a higher percentage of clay apparently in the track. And if you know anything about farming or whatever, I don't, but whatever it is, clay holds moisture
Starting point is 01:13:01 more than sand and silt. This track was always known as a track that dried very, very quickly because it had a higher percentage of sand. And now with more clay in the track, there is at least some concern with the trainers back there that if it rains Friday and it rains Saturday morning, that the track may not dry as quickly on Kentucky Derby day as it has in the band. So that might be the most immediate impact that we see. And then talking about Friday, you usually give us something on the Kentucky Oaks. You
Starting point is 01:13:34 will be on the broadcast. We'll see you all weekend. So what do you think in Kentucky Oaks for people who want to start on Friday? Look, I'll give you some horses to bet Friday and Saturday, right? Okay. And the Kentucky Oaks, we'll start with the Kentucky Oaks on Friday. I have a very tough time separating the five for Pete O'Anna and the 13 just FYI. Right now for Pete O'Anna is the favorite in the early betting. Just FYI is, you know, it's almost a coin flip between the two horses. So I would play exact this back and forth between those two.
Starting point is 01:14:09 Right now, just FYI's I think five to one, which would be a great price for her. The horse I liked the most in the two days for betting purposes is running on Saturday in the seventh race. It's a race called the Disdap Turf Mile. And her name is Coppice, C-O- called the Dysdaph Turf Mile. And her name is is Koppis, C-O-P-P-I-C-E. She breaks from number 11 in the seventh race on Saturday. Her first race in the
Starting point is 01:14:33 United States and the reviews of this horse back at the barn in the mornings have been absolutely glowing. And a lot of those European horses come over here and kick ass against the American horses when they switch them to the turf. And then a few races later, the 10th race is a race called the Churchill Downs states, seven furlongs sprint. I'm not positive. This horse is fast enough to win, but it's going to be 12 or 15 to one 1 and the horse could be right there And I'm gonna bet it the horses name is track mate Okay, track mate number seven in the in the tenth race on on Saturday, okay?
Starting point is 01:15:15 All right, I like that. I like I like that endorsement of it I'm not sure this horse is fast enough to win, but I'm gonna bet on it. Yeah at that price Yeah, you know numbers wise he can win in his last race at Oakland Park is fast enough to win, but I'm going to bet on it. Yeah. At that price? Yeah. Numbers wise, he can win. In his last race at Oak Lawn Park, it was just an allowance race. You watch that race and you're like, whoa. I mean, he streaked around horses coming to the stretch and then drew off and won. Dwayne Lucas trains him.
Starting point is 01:15:40 He's had blinkers twice. He won both those races. Last race, he really gave you that sort of wow factor when you watched him run. And this is not the toughest Churchill down stakes that we've seen over the year. So I think he's got a really good chance to be right there. When, when, when you go blinkers on, are we basically saying that the horse is just not mentally tough? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It, it, it. It's, it's typically, typically that the horse is too distracted.
Starting point is 01:16:10 Right. Right. The horse is looking at the other horses. The horse is looking at the crowd, you know, the horses, especially in the infield of the Kentucky Derby. Oh, look over there. Holy cow. Look at that. You know, and he's not, and he's not focused on what he's doing in front of him. Right. So the blinkers sort of help him not look at anything else except what's like right there. Uh, the other thing is that sometimes horses, uh, what, what the blinkers will do when they sharpen the focus, it makes sources often run faster early for whatever reason.
Starting point is 01:16:41 I guess it's because they're just, they're, they're more focused. Yeah. So if some horses just have trouble early in the race and they dropped too far back, trainers will put blinkers on the horse, hoping that it makes them show more speed. And oftentimes it works. Hey, now in terms of horse racing technology, have, have we ever thought about, uh, you know how like outfielders would wear the, the, the sunglasses that you can flip on and off Have we thought about doing blinkers where it's like you can have the blinkers on for the first start of the race and then you Can flip them off at the end does that I think I might have just invented a new thing You may have before you know it you may have those you may have I black under the horses
Starting point is 01:17:21 I like yeah, you don't know yeah,'t know. What you do see in horse racing that's pretty funny is that some horses are claustrophobic and they don't want to go into the starting gate. This happens in Europe more than it does in the United States. So they'll put a hood on them, a complete hood, no eye holes, they can't see anything. And they'll put them in the gate and they'll put them in the gate and they'll load them in the gate and they'll keep that hood on them and the jockey will have his hand on top of the hood. And as soon as the gate opens, he'll throw the hood off, throw it behind him and then the horse, the horse will go on. The day that the jockey forgets to take
Starting point is 01:18:00 the hood off, that should be very interesting. Yeah. It sounds like they're, they're taking the horse hostage and then they're like, okay, you're interesting. Yeah. It hasn't happened yet. It sounds like they're taking the horse hostage, and then they're like, OK, you're free. Try to get away. And then it runs out. That's actually a smart move. What about this? What about if you were to have a horse
Starting point is 01:18:13 and have it train with a really fat jockey for a while, and then on race day, here's your real jockey. He weighs 150 pounds less. It's like a batting donut. Yeah, a batting donut. Yeah. Yeah, it's like swinging a leaded bat or something like that. There was a trainer named Larry Jones who still trains horses every now and then.
Starting point is 01:18:29 He's had some really good horses over the years. He had hard spun who was second in the Kentucky Derby way back when. Larry weighs about 170 pounds or whatever. He would like to breeze his horses and get on them in the mornings, and that was a little part of the theory. Yeah. Thought it would strengthen them up a little bit, right? And then in the afternoon you put on your, you know,
Starting point is 01:18:52 110 pound rider and boom. You don't see that very often though. Yeah. Did it work? I hate them, but you want a lot of racing. Okay, that's a smart move. Yeah. That's a very smart move.
Starting point is 01:19:02 What's the minimum weight a jockey has to be? Minimum or maximum? Is there a minimum? Well, I mean, typically nowadays, you don't see many races at all where the minimum weight is any lower than like 112, 113 pounds, right? So if you do happen to have a super duper lightweight jockey like Pat Day used to be, right? Pat Day was a natural lightweight, like I'm talking like 105 pounds or something like that. So when Pat would ride and his horse had to carry 115 pounds, they just put 10 pounds of lead weight into the saddle so that he can, you know, carry the amount of weight
Starting point is 01:19:42 that he's you know carry the amount of weight that he's required to carry as far as a maximum weight Typically nowadays, you know, it's very difficult for a jockey to ride. It'd be weighs more than a hundred and seventeen hundred 16 pounds, okay, they're overweight. They're overweight on too many races. Yeah But yeah, I'm just thinking like like What you know, like maybe a seven year old on a horse. Yeah. Would they just be able to dominate? Yeah, just riding, just standing on a maybe. Like a 50 pound seven year old.
Starting point is 01:20:14 Have we thought about getting Jokic involved in American horse racing? We know he loves horses and I feel like this would be right up his alley. He's in the playoffs obviously, so he can't do it now, but getting him involved owning a horse and then he would ride on the back of the horse to train it and then put a jockey on that horse is going to be so fast. Hey we got Jason Wirt this year. You know we got Aaron Rodgers will probably be here. Tom Brady will be here. So yeah I mean it's good to meet these athletes involved with the game.
Starting point is 01:20:42 Yeah. All right last question. This has always been great. We love having you on Randy. It's a row back question. R H O B A C K.com promo code take 20% off your first purchase. Q's ifs, polos, hoodies, joggers, shorts, row back.com. Uh, so this year's a little interesting for the triple crown. I'll actually be there for the Belmont, which is going to be at Saratoga. Is that going to, is that going to change? Yeah. Hopefully I'll see you. Is that going to change any of, uh, the horses that are in the triple to change? Yeah, hopefully I'll see you. Is that going to change any of the horses that are in the triple crown? You know, cause I know you can obviously race the Preakness and Belmont, even if you're not in the Kentucky Derby, but the fact that
Starting point is 01:21:13 it's in a different place in a different track, does that change the dynamic and how, how trainers are playing this out? Not the fact that it's at a different track, but the fact that it's at a different distance. Yeah. Because the Belmont is being run at Saratoga this year, they don't feel comfortable running it at a mile and a half because then you'd have to start it halfway around the turn. And now it's been done in the past when the Belmont was run at Aqueduct a few way back when, in the 60s I think, when they were, the first time they were rebuilding Belmont Park,
Starting point is 01:21:47 they ran it a mile and a half and they started it on the turn with no problem. Because they felt it was important to keep that mile and a half distance. But this year, next year, the New York authorities have decided that it would be better to run the Belmont stakes at a mile and a quarter,
Starting point is 01:22:03 which completely changes the dynamic of the Triple Crown. Right. You know, the Belmont was always known as the test of the champion because of that mile and a half distance that was the undoing of so many horses that were trying to sleep the Triple Crown. It's much to me, the distances of the races
Starting point is 01:22:21 and the Belmont, especially being a mile and a half, it's much more important to keep that tradition than the amount of time between the Derby and the Britons and the Britons and the Belmont. But at a mile and a quarter, I think you're going to see a lot more trainers want to run in the Belmont States than if it were still a mile and a half. Yeah. So this is going to be whoever, if someone wins the Triple Crown this year or next year, we're going to just forever be like Asterix, bubble championship.
Starting point is 01:22:49 Different. You're right. Yes. Absolutely. I think that's unfortunate. Yeah. But on the other hand, you're going to get more horses running in the other races, which
Starting point is 01:22:57 is good, right? Well, more in the Belmont. Yeah. Yeah. Man, Saratoga's incredible. Oh, yeah. Yeah. And that's going to be quite the spectacle. I wish I could see you there. I'm not going to be there. Okay. Fox says the Belmont States nowadays, but it's going to be like really, really something
Starting point is 01:23:17 special to see. Okay. All right. So, Randy, thank you as always. We'll talk to you before the preakness. We're excited. We're very excited for the Kentucky Derby. Starting point is 01:26:08 all around great guy. It is Keith Yandle. We're gonna talk some puck. Yans, good to talk to you. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You guys went over last podcast, you saying very, very, very special guests and I get fucking nothing. Yeah. And actually on this episode, people are gonna listen to this after they listened to Randy Moss, I think I gave them four verys. Yeah, you got no, how many verys do you think you should get? None. But like, I don't know, fake one like very, okay, all right, very, very. There you go. There was two. Yes. Before we talk about some of these second
Starting point is 01:26:45 round matchups, you were texting me yesterday and he said he wishes he had Memes' phone number so we could have texted him and asked how many games you really thought the Islanders were going to win. So we might as well do it right now because you were dealing with Frankie Borelli and Islanders fans. Yeah. They thought that a four one loss of the Hurricanes in that first round series, they were right there. Which is insane is means there. Yeah. Me, he's here. Hey, I wanted his phone numbers because I wanted to be friends with him. I love memes, but second, but like it's like Borelli is making this big deal. having Stu Finer come into his restaurant, watch games.
Starting point is 01:27:27 Like they had zero chance of winning that series, zero. And do I love the fact that they did it in heartbreaking fashion? Yes, I love it because I played for the Rangers. I hate the Islanders. But the fact that they thought that they, I'd rather not be in the playoffs than think that you're gonna win a series or think you're Gonna win a game like it's just it's it's just typical thinking of you know the Borelli type fan Yeah, all right. You hated the islanders is that common like do most players if it's their rival. They actually have a hatred of them
Starting point is 01:28:01 Well, I think when you play a team You know you play a team so much, you're in the same division, you're a couple miles away. And when you play the Islanders, especially back then when they were at Nassau Coliseum, the worst hotel, the worst food, the walk to the rink is brutal. So it's just, there's nothing fun about going to that town to play a game, but great fans, loyal, passionate, but they're hanging on to their 1970s
Starting point is 01:28:30 a little bit too long. Yeah, yeah, all right, so memes, what do you say to that? Do you think you were right there? I do think we were right there. I'd say that's crazy people talking. How memes? Game two, we probably should have won. So it should have been two-two going in to get game.
Starting point is 01:28:50 So that's one win. Yeah, that's one win. All right. And then it would have been coming back to the island, three-two. We would have won that. And then we would have stole one game seven. OK, all right.
Starting point is 01:28:59 So that's how they would have done it. All right, so my bad. Maybe they would have won it. They would have got to pass right to the finals if they won that series. Yeah. All right. So, so let's start with, uh, let's start with the East because you just mentioned your former team, the Rangers, they, uh, beat the capitals very quickly. It was, it was seven days exactly, which, uh, I was trying to help PFT being like, if you're out in seven days, you just were never in the playoffs. Don't remember. Are we at the point, is it early enough to do the rest versus rust thing? Are we worried
Starting point is 01:29:27 that the Rangers, they played four games and they're going to take a week off and now they got to get back out there. Do they lose a little bit of their, uh, you know, momentum going into the next round? I don't think so. I think, I think rest is such a big, uh, component, especially now during playoffs. Anytime you can get it is huge. At the end of every series, pretty much every guy's banged up. Going through something, whether it's bruises or stuff that's broken, guys are battling through it. So I think the rest component is huge anytime you can get it,
Starting point is 01:30:00 especially during the playoffs, cuz you don't know if you're gonna get it next series or the series after and they might have a slow first period but caroline is going to have some rest too probably take the under in that first game okay so the the rangers is there penalty kill as good as it looked or is it just that the capitals are atrocious i think a little bit of both you didn't you didn't see the capitals power play that you used to see in the last, what, 20 years with Oldby? They did a good job of eliminating him. I don't think he had his best series that he's ever had, and I'm sure he would be the first guy to tell you that. But a lot of hard work from that team at the end of the season to try to get in. They might've been out of gas, but I do think that the Rangers PK and their power play, their special teams are great.
Starting point is 01:30:50 They got a lot of dogs out there, just guys that are willing to pay the price, block shots, playoff time. That's what it's all about. And guys sacrificing themselves. And I think the Rangers are one of the best teams at doing that. And they got the guys that want to PK. And then when you have such a good power play like they do, it just makes your PK look even better. With Ovi specifically, I've watched a lot of him this year.
Starting point is 01:31:15 I've watched his entire career in the playoffs. He looked like a different guy entirely. It was to a point where I started to get concerned like is this the new Ovi? Is this just who he is now? Because he seemed to hit a wall this year so maybe it was he's out of gas by the end of the season but the way that he played it was completely foreign to me as somebody that's seen this guy's entire career. Haven't seen that type of play from Ovi ever and so now I'm worried next year looking forward is this just going to be Ovi trotting him out there trying to get him out on power plays until he gets the record and then the franchise is just kind of treading water for the next season or maybe two seasons.
Starting point is 01:31:51 Yeah, I think it could, I think it could be a little of that, but yeah, there were a few plays during that series when, you know, when I was with the Rangers, we played the Washington and a lot of times he'll come down the wall. He's usually in his spot up there hitting a one-timer, but if there's a loose puck and you're a D-man going to get it, he's usually running you through the glass. I didn't see much of that out of him, but like you guys said before on the show, Father Time is undefeated. I don't know if they had the best team to support him as well you know I think they were lucky to get in with you know obviously the goal differentials everyone's been talking about but yeah you can see him especially you know he'll put his 20 games together where he
Starting point is 01:32:37 just goes on heaters plays well plays hard but I think I think the days of where he's running guys through the boards you know a be reckoned with out there, those might be limited. But I think when it comes to goal scoring, I think he could do it till he's 45 years old. Cuz he's got one of those shots where no one wants to block it, whether you're a defenseman or a goalie, you don't wanna get hit by it. So I think you're still gonna see him scoring goals and getting opportunities, but I think that the rest of that stuff that made him so effective with being a force out there,
Starting point is 01:33:11 scary to play against. People don't realize he's probably 250 pounds, especially when playoffs come at the end of the year. You're eating a lot of chicken parm during the season, right? You're putting on weight. He's probably playing a 250 running guys and not a fun man to play against. So last question about the Rangers, Matt Rempey, who electrified the NHL when he came up, was fighting every single night. He turned down a fight in this series with Tom Wilson. Does that matter at all in the locker room going forward? Like, Hey dude, it's a playoffs or was it simply the Rangers were going to win that series no matter what? Don't waste your fights in this series. Yeah, I think a little bit of both. The key thing to fighting is time and place. And you
Starting point is 01:33:56 know, you talk to guys like biz or guys like you can hurt a team's moment, your own team's momentum. You can help another team's momentum. If you're up by a goal, it's usually an unwritten law that you don't fight. The other team's fighter is probably gonna try to fight you to get his team going a little bit, but that's when you kinda shake it off and say, no, no, no, wait till it's tied or whatever. But usually when fights like that happen, especially in playoffs, it's usually a little more organic, whether a guy gets ran from behind or stuck in the face.
Starting point is 01:34:24 But I think the days of where guys are just tapping shim pads at the red line little more organic, um, whether a guy gets ran from behind or stuck in the face. But I think, I think the days of where guys are just, uh, you know, tapping shim pads at the, at the red line and saying, Hey, we're, we're going this shift. I think that's kind of done, uh, especially during playoffs. Cause it's, it's all about momentum for your team. Uh, I can't, I can't remember exactly the players. Was it at home or on the road? I think it was game three and the three or four, but Wilson was trying to get after him a couple of times in this series and the Rangers were up one in that especially on the road to like you're, you don't need to fight on the road because
Starting point is 01:34:53 you're just going to get the other teams crowd into it at home. You're probably looking for it a little more, but on the road, you don't, you don't need to get the other teams crowd into it. Um, you know, especially like PFT, he'll be taking his shirt off and waving it around like Petey Pablo. Yeah. Another dumb question about Rempey. Uh, so he comes up and he fights, I can't even remember. It was like four or five, uh, of the first games that he played in the locker room. Is there anyone like, Hey dude, we get it. Like we, we love you. You're good. Like after the third fight, they're like, Hey, you're good with us. Like we, we know you're the tough guy now. Like we're, we're good going forward. You're our guy. Or was he like,
Starting point is 01:35:29 I'm just going to keep fighting until everyone in here says to me personally that they love me. It's a good way to get the, uh, you know, get the graces of your teammates is by going out and fighting. Um, especially when you're a young player trying to make a name for yourself, but I don't think he needs to do it. And you'll see during playoffs, like he won't be doing it as much.
Starting point is 01:35:51 He'll be playing and he's a scary guy to play against. Like he's six, seven, flies around. So I think he's more effective getting in on the four check, scaring D-men, you know, making plays when he can. But at the end of the day, the fighting stuff in playoffs is not going to be, is going to be more organic. Yeah. How do you usually initiate a fight? Is it, you want to go? Yeah. You want one? A lot of guys say you want one. Yeah. Or you want a shot at the
Starting point is 01:36:23 belt? That's what I used to say How many fights did you log? Not many maybe eight Yeah 16 years. Yeah, is there a good way to turn down a fight or do you just skate away? Like can you say not right now? I can't do it right now. I'm busy I used to always say either my hand my hand hurts or or a coach won't let me. Coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach,
Starting point is 01:36:50 coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach,
Starting point is 01:36:58 coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach , coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach, coach the Leafs can win this and take it to seven and then possibly steal this because it felt like they were dead, especially with Austin Matthews out, like they're yelling at each other on the, on the bench. Like, is there any chance the Leafs can somehow get this to seven and maybe win? I don't know. A lot of it, it has a little bit of a feeling of last year. Um, when, when
Starting point is 01:37:20 the Bruins lost to, uh, the Panthers with, you know, missing a couple goals. Marshawn missed last year, I think Coyle missed one this year. So it has a little bit of that same feeling, but I think Toronto played their best game last game and I thought the Bruins were not very good at all. It was a sloppy game, not a lot of... It looked like the ice that the Parquet was still down. Like pucks were bouncing everywhere. So I don't think they can pull this one off. I think the Bruins have the leadership, the veteran presence in that locker room that they'll be able to
Starting point is 01:37:53 win one of two. But if they lose tonight, man, it's going to get a little testy in the waters in Boston. Do you think maybe Ryan Whitney turned the series around with the Photoshop that he personally created and put out there online and the Leaf saw that and they're like, fuck this, we're going to go out there and win. Oh, I didn't even see that. Oh, you didn't see the Photoshop. Watch it.
Starting point is 01:38:15 Big guy. Maybe he would have been great since Daniel. So he knows what not to share online. It would be great if he answers the one who created it. He's just he's just like Kaiser. So he's like, I don't even have a computer. He's a, he's a master minding all these AI images. Yeah. I wouldn't, I wouldn't put it past you. Um, out West. So the Dallas, uh, golden night series, everyone said this is going to be a war. You saw the gold nights win the first two games. Like, Oh shit, maybe
Starting point is 01:38:41 the gold nights run away with this. Now we're back to war and it's three to Dallas. They won three in a row. Uh, that same kind of question with the Leafs. Like I know the Golden Knights can do it. They just want to cup, but do you see them being able to force this to a game seven? And what happened in the last three games that, that the Golden Knights went from a two Oh winning two on the road to now fighting for their life? Yeah, it's a good question. And I had Dallas going to the finals last year. I think I might even have them going to the finals this year because they got Autinger, who was a top three goalie in the league. They got young studs. They got older guys that have been around forever, that have done a lot of damage in this league. So I think that
Starting point is 01:39:22 their team, the way that they're made up is, you know, a tough team to beat, but Vegas, I don't know if it's, you know, everyone complains about, you know, the guys being on LTIR and not playing the last half of the season to stay under the cap. But to me, it looks like it's hurting them a little bit this year. I think, you know, stone and hurdle. I don't think they look, know like themselves is as dominant as they are when they're a hundred percent healthy you know they could be still
Starting point is 01:39:48 hurt but it's one of those things when you go on a on a run like last year you're winning games you're beating people up you know they play a very physical physical game so it could be one of those things where they're just tired they're you know kind of need the rest but you know it's also they're running into a, kind of need the rest. But, you know, it's also they're running into a good team first. I know that they were the eight seed, but it's, you know, playing Dallas first round is never fun. And this has probably been the best series, I think. It could be a Western Conference final matchup if, you know, Vegas, you
Starting point is 01:40:21 know, had had their weapons all year, I think they would have finished a little bit higher. But yeah, I think Dallas, I think this is their year to pull this one off and beat Vegas. What about Edmonton? I know it's hard to say how good they are right now because they beat the Kings. It feels like they do that every single season. If I was a Kings fan, I would just I would despise all of Canada, but they they advanced pretty easily. Was it three years in a row?
Starting point is 01:40:47 I think they lost in the first round. I think they lost to LA three years ago. Oh, did they? They lost three years ago. But yeah, it feels like- Last year, I know they play. I don't know. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:41:00 So Edmonton advances. Do you think that this would be the year? Because we were all over it last year with Connor McDavid. We're like, this could be the year? Because we're all over it last year with Conor McDavid. We're like, this could be the year that he gets it done because we won't acknowledge his greatness until he gets a ring facts. That's something that you know, it's very important to us on this show. So until then, he's not a winner. Would this be it
Starting point is 01:41:16 feels like this is a tougher West with Colorado and then whoever comes out of that that Vegas Dallas series. Yeah, I think I think that they have the easiest matchups to get to the Western Conference Finals. Obviously with playing LA, who they've had their number the last couple of years, like you said. And then they're going to get the winner of Vancouver, Nashville.
Starting point is 01:41:38 And I think that they'll work either one of those teams. But I don't think it's their year. And you hate to say it just because what McDavid and Dreisaitl and Hyman have done this year and what they do for the league, but I just think those other teams are a little bit more deep, better goaltending, better defensively. But I do like how Edmonton is bulked up on the back end, you know, bringing in big guys. Uh, I think you see in playoffs, uh, you know, a lot of the teams that have the big, strong, heavy D, um, th they're the teams that are usually winning it or going deep,
Starting point is 01:42:16 but I just don't see it this year for them. Um, you know, hopefully one day, McDavid gets one, but, uh, I don't, I think the West is too stacked. And at the end of the day, I think the East is going to win it this year. Has the league gone back to bigger players? Cause I know it's switched a little bit in like the, you know, the Blackhawks run. They had big players, but like there was some teams with some, a lot more skill and speed as it, do you see it like going back towards like you need the bulky guys
Starting point is 01:42:45 and just kind of hammer teams? I think, I think in playoffs you have to, but you know, the way that the game is, you have to be mobile. You can't just be a big, you know, when I started in the league, it was six, four, six, five D men who just, you know, and you couldn't get near the front of the net that couldn't skate as well as the guys can now. So I think you've got to have a combination of, you know, big guys that can move the puck decently and can clear the front of the net. But yeah, it's definitely, I think during the regular season, you see that, you know, the smaller guys, the more finesse guys, they'll shine a little bit more. But when it comes down time for playoffs, it's usually the teams with the big heavy D that are winning games.
Starting point is 01:43:25 Yeah. What do we think about what's going on with the whole Arizona Utah thing? So the players were told at the end of the season, I have to imagine that some of them knew that this was a very good possibility that was going to happen. But they're moving to Utah. They don't have a name yet. Is there anything that you've heard in terms of what they're going to be called? Do you, is there anything that you've heard in terms of like what they're going to be called? I've heard a few things. I like the Yetis, but I don't know, it doesn't, doesn't really matter to me. But I think, I think it's a good thing.
Starting point is 01:43:54 Obviously you hate to see, especially, you know, Phoenix is where I started my career, you know, loved it there, loved my time there, but I think it's just time for them to move on and then hopefully get in the right owner and get a team back there because, you know, it's one of those cities that I think needs to have hockey. Like if you look at, you know, Austin Matthew is a guy from Arizona. If he didn't have the, you know, the Coyotes there and a guy like Shane Doan to look up to, he would have never played hockey. And I think he's came out and said that. So I think you got to have a team there. My guess is they're going to get the right ownership group to come in, build a stadium near where, you know, the highly dense population is in
Starting point is 01:44:35 Scottsdale, Tempe, North Scottsdale, get the right owners and get the right guys to run that team. And I think it would flourish. I got a name for you that should, that should be helping out to run that team. And I think it would flourish. I got a name for you that should that should be helping out to run that team. Commodore. That dude's awesome. My Commodore. Yeah, that guy is the final four guy is a fucking maniac. Yeah. I don't know him that well. But he is a funny man. Yeah. I mean, it's just hockey guys are always every hockey
Starting point is 01:45:01 guy's funny. I don't understand what you guys do. Yeah, but the the Utah yetis. I think that's that's a winner of a name. Yeah, I, I, yeah, and I went to I went back to Madison to do they have like an end of the year sports award. So I was the MC and it was like 1000 athletes in the the whole auditorium. And of course, the entire hockey team was in the front row. I think they had been camping out for like like a week And I was just like now I feel at home like as I just know those guys They're funny and they're gonna they actually listen to a bar stool and pardon my takes with something about hockey guys Yeah, they're the best and
Starting point is 01:45:38 Especially college kids do it, you know Obviously the audience that you guys have and what you know all the enjoyment you guys bring to everyone It's they must have loved it And I can only imagine being a young kid listening to you up there and were they, were they giving you shit or anything? Yeah, they were giving me shit. And then they, they all came up and asked for a picture after and they were giving me shit about my, I was wearing a shirt without a collar. It was, I don't know what someone sent it to me as fashion choice that I probably shouldn't have been doing. Have a stain on there. No, it looked like I look like a priest. Oh nice
Starting point is 01:46:06 Um, and then they were they're giving me shit cuz I wasn't gonna go to the bar with them Go out with them, dude. I gotta work We do PMT you sound like biz Yeah, business like that. Yeah, but biz when he says I gotta work. He just goes and takes a nap Yeah, I actually had to work. We had to do PMT after after all the playoff games. I would have loved to go out. You tell me this doesn't go out anymore. He goes out. Yeah, I actually had a fun night with him the other the other night. He is out of
Starting point is 01:46:36 his mind. That guy what happened. Do any cameos? No, does he is he on cameo? Oh yeah. Oh yeah. You don't know about the there's a great one. You don't know about the, there's a great one. You don't know about the famous cameo. Uh huh. I'll send it to you. Oh yes. No, I think you got taken down. It might be gone. It's too hot for the internet. Yeah, it was too hot for the internet. Wasn't him. It was the guy in the background. We have it, Max. Somebody's gotta. Alright, I'll get, I'll get that. We'll
Starting point is 01:47:01 find it. We'll send it to you. Tell us what like an average night out on the town with Biz is like. Well, the night he came out with me, it was me, my wife, three of our friends and their wives, and he had some girl who was gonna come to dinner with us, just some girl he's never met, then he was like, all right, I'm gonna go meet her. He shows up, she's with her boyfriend.
Starting point is 01:47:23 He's like, hey, what's going on here? Like, am I interrupting anything? And the guy was like, yes, my girl. And then he went to the bathroom and then the girl was like, no, he's not my boyfriend. So his mind was in a pretzel. So it was fun to pick him up the next day, go to lunch and him tell me that story.
Starting point is 01:47:43 Oh my God, only biz. Only biz. I got my bull coming over. He's a, he's a former ice hockey player. You love him. Uh, who, give me the three best goalies in the playoffs right now. I think you got to put Bobrovsky at one. Yeah. Um, Autinger probably a two nights and then I'll go a Schusterke and three. Okay. Yeah. So in is it, is it a big difference between the three? Like is it, is one just playing at such a different level or all three of those guys could easily win the cup? I think Bob's playing at a different level. I think, you know, that, that save that he
Starting point is 01:48:22 made, uh, I think it was game two, um, where you just reached back, made the save. I think you know that that save that he made I think it was game two where you just reached back made the save I think like every time I see it I just think that that's the start of the DVD you know when you went when you win the championship I just think you think back to all the Stanley Cup winners there's always like that one save where a guy makes and it's you know just cements his legacy as an all time great. And Bob's one of those guys. He's a competitor. He's an amazing goalie and, you know, easy guy to root for.
Starting point is 01:48:54 Yeah. So who do you have in the Stanley Cup final? I got Florida and Colorado. Oh yeah. Because Colorado gets like, you know, they win the cup and then last year it felt like it's hard to repeat and so many miles on their legs. And now I'm watching them.
Starting point is 01:49:17 I'm like, oh yeah, this team was really dominant two years ago. Like what? And not a lot has changed. They, they, they made quick work of the first round and they play such a fun style of hockey. It feels like maybe it's just personal. Like people have kind of like slept on Colorado a little bit. Yeah, I think they have for sure. And I think it's probably because they don't have that, you know, household name, goaltender. If they did, then I think everyone would have them as their favorite. But you just love to like Nathan McKinnon. Every
Starting point is 01:49:47 shift he's doing something that is just special and you know, getting to know, you know, hearing more about him the way he is in the locker room, he trains with Crosby all summer, like, you just know, he's demanding a lot out of his team in between every period after every game, he's holding guys accountable. Probably the best, I don't know if he's a vocal leader, but the way that he plays, probably the best leader in the game right now,
Starting point is 01:50:11 just giving 100% effort. He skates like it's his last shift, every single shift. It's wild to me. He does it for 82 games and then in the playoffs. Most guys, it's a lot to do all year. He brings it. He's worth the price of admission. Um, and you know, obviously he's won his cup, but I think it's one of those things
Starting point is 01:50:32 he wants, he wants more. He's not satisfied. Yeah. So it sounds like you have the Panthers over the avalanche in the finals. I can, you said you thought the East was going to win it this year, right? Yeah. I think it's the Panthers year. Um, I just, they're a fun team to watch.
Starting point is 01:50:47 They're, they play so hard. Um, they're, they're big guys are playing great. Uh, Barkov had an amazing closing game against Tampa and, you know, Tampa was, you know, the Kryptonite for a long time, you know, those guys. And I think you see the changing of the guard a little bit, um, you know, a little 400 miles south. I think it now it's like the Panthers are kind of running the East a little bit, uh, the last two years anyways.
Starting point is 01:51:12 So it's, it's fun to see what, what they've been able to do for hockey down here and, and, you know, getting people interested and, you know, just every, everywhere I go now, it's just people are talking about the team and, and, uh, you know, it's just fun to have it around and, you know, just every everywhere I go now, it's just people are talking about the team and, you know, it's just fun to have it around. And, you know, especially in a market like this where it's not, you know, a cold city where people grew up playing hockey. It's one of those things it's came it's came organically with with, you know, how well the teams have been playing.
Starting point is 01:51:38 Do you call them the peas? Because we call them the peas. But that's only because Brooks called them the peas. I do not call them the peas. No, they're not the peas. The Thursdays. What do you call them the peas, but that's only because Brooks calls them the peas. I do not call them the peas, no. They're not the peas. The thurs? What do you call them? The cats. The cats.
Starting point is 01:51:50 Oh yeah. That's cool. I like that. Um, I, this may be outdated cause we're going to tape the beginning of the show after, uh, the playoff games tonight, but do you think Hanks being a pussy, not, uh, being cocky Hank? I, I do kind of hate, hate to pile on Hank because he's my guy, you know, mask guy. But I think I think you need that you need to act a little more cocky Hank, like it's in you. It's in you
Starting point is 01:52:16 to fucking give it to the people, you know, I think a little bit that has hurt him is the Patriots and the whole lighthouse things. But he hasn't recovered from the lighthouse. He has not been. Am I wrong? He hasn't been the same since the lighthouse. It's true. You could all you could track it all back to the lighthouse. Yeah, it's where it's with his cockiness just kind of fell out.
Starting point is 01:52:40 It might be he's a patriot in general. It's hard to be cocky. No, but the lighthouse mostly. Yeah, that's fair. I'm hoping he's he's a general. It's hard to be cocky. No, but the lighthouse mostly. Yes He's more into golf right now that kind of that's a chill sport like you He's banging balls and you know, just rooting for his teams like a like a gentleman But yeah, I'd like to see that the cocky Hank especially with the Celtics like just fucking bring it out Hey, yeah This is why we need the Sixers to play against the Celtics because that that Hank would have no choice. He would not be able to get down so if he would naturally revert back to like fuck you Philly. I'm a dick. The Sixers fucking
Starting point is 01:53:13 stink and so does Max. Yeah. So we're gonna I mean what do you have? Do you have anything to say to him before he goes to war tonight? He's he's got a little bounce to his step. You know winning. I don't think he thought he was going to win tonight. He's he's got a little bounce to his step, you know, winning. I don't think he thought he was going to win game five and now he's got a little bounce to his step where he's like this might be we might be back. This might actually work. He's lifting this morning. Yeah, he was what he's lifting. He's he's getting back in shape third time this week for the record. Hell yeah. Yeah. Matt. Matt, you want you
Starting point is 01:53:41 want action on the game tonight? Matt, they're going to lose. What? Come on. Matt, they're going to lose. What? Come on. He's going to be after. Yeah, I know what he's doing. Yeah, they're going to lose. He's doing a bit. All right. Well, Yans, I got one last question.
Starting point is 01:53:53 It's the road back question. R H O B A C K dot com promo code. Take 20% off your first purchase. Q Zips, Polos, hoodies, joggers, shorts, rollback.com. How's the golf game right now? Are you in peak? Do you golf all summer in Florida? Cause that's gotta be miserable weather. No, I go up to a Nantucket in the summer.
Starting point is 01:54:09 I'm not down here. I get out of, yeah, it's way too hot. Uh, but yeah, I play a decent amount in the summertime, but not as much as during the winter. Cause I usually just play when the kids are in school. Um, how's my, my game's probably the best it's ever been. I'm playing well, steady, right around like 77, 78, pretty much every time. That's pretty good. What do you think about Tiger's brand's rollout yesterday? Did you like it? His what? The rollout of his brand. Tiger's knew the logo and all that shit that everyone was pissed off about. Yeah, Witt said it looked like what's that? It's like a chain fish store, like a fish restaurant, like fish bones or something. Yeah. Yeah. On fish grill. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:54:53 Bonefish. He said it looked like that, which I was dying laughing at. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. I don't love it, but. I don't know. Yeah, Robax way better. How long I brought it. How long? How long does it take you to get news? Because you're not online. Like, how? When did you find out OJ died?
Starting point is 01:55:10 Did you find out when when we said it on the podcast? Oh, you're running that. No, actually, my group chat with my buddies back home is probably where I get all my news. That's scary. And I'm one of those guys, like I don't look stuff up. Like I like to ask, like, you know, old school, like ask people things up. So I like to ask people. So people, if I ask a question, someone could lie to me.
Starting point is 01:55:38 And I just believe it. Oh shit. We might have to start lying to you. Yeah. We'll, we'll have to implant some news into you next time you're on the show. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um, all Yans. Yeah, we'll we'll have to implant some news into you next time you're on the show. Yeah. That's what. Yeah. Yeah. Um alright. Well, Yans, we'll uh have you back on uh maybe Cup Final. We
Starting point is 01:55:54 also gotta get you up here to play some golf. I know. We're gonna do a golf video. Yeah. I told Hank, you guys gotta play Butler. Butler National is my favorite course in all in Chicago but it's it's an amazing track. Yeah. Then I looked it up and it was like one of the most private clubs. You know, you gotta, you gotta know someone.
Starting point is 01:56:09 Well, he is gonna sit there. Yeah, we know. Yeah. He'll get us in. Yeah. As long as you're cocky about the, about the Bruins and the Celtics, I got you. Oh, there it is. There it is. Um, all right, Yans. Thanks so much, man. Yeah, thanks for having me, boys. Starting point is 01:57:14 Yeah, it was a lot of soda. It was too much soda. Use code PMC20 for 20% off your order at participating locations. Okay, let's wrap up the show. Fire Fest of the week. Henry? Yes.
Starting point is 01:57:29 I was having, I was having, Hank, you look good. Thank you. Wearing a hat. I am wearing a hat. Good point, that's your choice. I worked out this morning and haven't showered yet, so I'm still, I had to throw the hat on.
Starting point is 01:57:39 You look strong. I've been working out, I've been grinding. Your legs look strong, like they got some bounce in them. Yeah. Your whole body looks strong. Turning into an athlete. No one you say this is gaslighting. No Okay, you guys are being honest like you always are yeah, actually we were gaslighting. Yeah, you look strong You're gonna dunk in no time. Yeah, and and Hank he is so strong if I were Hank I'd probably even quit training because he's already so strong probably need to work out anymore
Starting point is 01:58:04 What have we settled on the we're gonna gonna do that at the top of the show? Yeah, we already did. Got it. People already listened to it. How do you think it went? Well, you guys, you guys, you guys probably folded and listened to what everyone said. Actually, I won't spoil my hand. What do you mean, listen to what everyone said?
Starting point is 01:58:21 Let's just do it right now. No, no, no, no, no, because it's gonna be at be the top of the show we already talked about it. What did everyone say? I won't I'm not I'm not gonna give him away my hand okay, but just never reveals the secrets um But speaking of comments and usually you know we're pretty elusive to comments to let him get to me But I wanted our YouTube the other day and the top comment just said Hank feels like he has wanted to do the show in three years. Oh. And that hurt my feelings. That's not true. Yeah, you can't. It's been five.
Starting point is 01:58:47 You can't let... You can't let the comments get to you. Because there's always... There's always someone who's going to say something mean. Like there's... There could be a hundred comments. One could be mean. 99 could be good.
Starting point is 01:59:00 The only one you're going to actually read is the one and then it will ruin your day. Well, it's usually like, you know, if it's in my own personal, you know, Twitter, Instagram, whatever, I'm used to just not, you know, filtering them out. It's when you catch a ricochet. Yeah. Like you're not expecting, you're not expecting it. It's true. You know, like, oh, let's see what people say about the episode and it's like the number
Starting point is 01:59:15 one comment, just like, Hank looks like he hates doing the show. And I was like, what the fuck? No, hey, that was Hank. If you've noticed Hank, he has not been cocky Hank and he's been having Like you can see it on his face He's not being honest with us and not being honest with you the listener by not fully embracing his confidence in his cockiness And it's only three years. We're talking three years. We wait this mechanism is to just go. Mm-hmm But hold on. I blame not having a desk over here. Oh not knowing what to do. We'll get you a desk Let's unpack this because remember we also had a month where you had to do your standup
Starting point is 01:59:48 special so now we're down to two years, 11 months that you haven't wanted to do the show. And then the whole lighthouse thing. The lighthouse thing? That affected him from September through December. Ah yeah, you can't. I have never felt like you don't want to do the show except for that time you asked us to not do the show anymore. That was more than three years ago. That was more than three years ago.
Starting point is 02:00:05 That was more than three years ago. Uh, actually that was exactly three years ago when he said, I don't want to do the show anymore. I also had to do a vlog for an ad where I said in the video that Hank does nothing. Oh. Which also was tough. And Hank does a lot. To be fair to Hank, that was for the bit.
Starting point is 02:00:20 The full story behind Hank not wanting to do the show wasn't because he didn't like doing the show. It was because he wanted to take on bigger responsibilities across the board. I've never... You didn't know if you'd have time to do the show. Yeah. I just didn't like listening to my voice, really being honest. When you had to edit it yourself. I've never felt like you didn't want to do the show. Yeah, you can't let the comments get to you.
Starting point is 02:00:43 That was getting close to a butt No, I I've never really like there's I mean there's listen Here's real talk. We've been doing the show for fucking long-ass time now eight years If you've been listening for eight years, there has been times when the show has been like humming There's been times when it's dip there's it just goes in waves Like that's just what it is. Like what other podcasts, there's not many podcasts with this many people who've been doing it for this long. Like there's podcasts that have one person who does the show and they have guests. Like, you know what I mean? Like that's a different dynamic. So I, I've never
Starting point is 02:01:17 felt like, Oh man, Hank hates us or doesn't want to be here. No, I've definitely, I've thought that Hank hates us. Also, I feel like we're in a great, we've been, we've been humming for a while now. Yeah. Like I thought I love coming to work every day. Like there's, I've definitely I've thought that Hank hates us. Also. I feel like we're in a great we've been we've been humming for a while now Yeah, like I thought I love coming to work every day like there's I love doing the show if we're a stock market There's been times when you say go. Okay. Yeah dips a little bit I feel like we've been rising for a while and do putting out great shows. So I don't Know and Hank I want you know, you're appreciated And but also I appreciate the comment section Of course, I appreciate the comments section.
Starting point is 02:01:45 Of course, you have to. I love every single internet comment out there. God bless you guys. I also, I think that we as human beings just weren't ready for the internet as it exists today. Like having people who are passionate about the show comment on every single minutia and try to look into every little, like, what do you mean by that? Do these guys not... We weren't built for that type of feedback, so
Starting point is 02:02:10 you got to just kind of ignore it. No human being's brain can handle that amount of feedback constantly coming at you. I've said that for years, that the weird part about when the show took off and got big is that the human brain, it was not evolved for millions of people to have an opinion about you. Yeah. That's just not something that anyone has ever had to deal with until the last like maybe three, 400 years on earth.
Starting point is 02:02:34 So yeah, don't let it get you down, Hank. No, it can't be down. I just, you know, I gotta, I gotta, I don't know, pick it up somehow. I love you like a brother. Bye back in. You're gonna dunk on those comments. Yes, family, you guys are.
Starting point is 02:02:44 I mean, we're gonna get to a comments. Yes. Family, you guys are. I mean, we're gonna get to a point, Hank, where, how old are you, 30? 30. So we still got a few years to go, but like there will be a point in the next six, seven years where it's like I've known you for half your life. I said that the other day to someone and they kind of laughed at me, but I do believe it, like 10 to, you don't remember 0 to 10.
Starting point is 02:03:07 Or 0 to 10. And you're in no control. Like you don't have any thoughts of your own. You're not doing what you want to do. 10 to 20, you know, you have what you like, you have your friends, you kind of make decisions. And obviously like you're still not in full control, but you're in more control of your life and interests. And then, so I have that and then 20 to 30 has just been, you know, with you and Barney. Yeah. So it feels like half my life. Yeah, right and so that's why also when people Try to you know not mentally get where they try to what's the word? I'm looking for BFD help me
Starting point is 02:03:36 No, no, no, they tried to trick you. What are you? No, they try to think of what you're thinking. They try it That's what I'm trying to do right now. No fuck God damn it. Teleport. God damn it. I don't know what word you're looking for. I know. It's bad.
Starting point is 02:03:51 So you're trying to think of a word. I'm trying to think of that word. Illuminate. Someone tries to be like, this is what this person is thinking without knowing them. Fuck. Plagate. No.
Starting point is 02:04:03 Inception. No. God damn it. This is going to be bad. I'm. I'm not even gonna try to put yourself in somebody else's shoes Yeah, but not really you're trying to oh man. This is bad. I don't know how you look that up Yeah, I don't know either. This is bad. Someone help me someone get me Line yeah, it's who's back is this Uzbekistan God say the definition again like when when I went if I'm watching someone else's podcast I'm like oh this person feels this way but we don't have any idea how they actually feel. We're trying to basically put like thoughts into their head. Yeah. Empathy. No. I didn't
Starting point is 02:04:39 want to know how someone feels empathy is the first thing that you're projecting your own thoughts in their head. Oh yeah. Whatever. Either way. The point is someone will tell me what is rattling around in the little piece of brain that I have that works. Anyway.
Starting point is 02:04:56 Allocate. People are going to try to be like Hank's feeling this way from a little moment that they watch when they don't realize that we have a ton of moments that they're not watching, that we are working together, friends, doing all these things, constantly communicating. So, and I'm not saying the person's wrong because that's all they get,
Starting point is 02:05:20 but if they saw the full picture, they would never think what they're thinking as that Hank doesn't wanna do the show. Yeah. That's, that was the least eloquent way I could ever put something. It makes sense though. Yeah. But now I'm trying to think of that word too. I basically just did like four full back dives to get a first down. Just ugly as fuck. Just running it right up the middle and we got there. I think we moved the chains. Word about what somebody is anticipating. It's something specific someone's gonna tell me and they're like I'm gonna feel like the dumbest person ever. Yeah. She's not, I mean I had a moment earlier this week where I thought out loud, I
Starting point is 02:06:02 thought out loud that we the floors weren't invented till 1850. Floors? Floors. What do you mean? Like hardwood floors? That's it. There's nothing more to say about that.
Starting point is 02:06:14 Is it anticipate what somebody else is saying? Project? Oral sensory seeking. We gotta move on. I think you're projecting. Yeah, maybe projecting. Projecting what you're thinking. Yeah, maybe projecting. I don't know. All right, you're FireFest, PFT. Yeah, we love you, Hank. move on you're projecting. Yeah, maybe projecting rejecting what you're thinking. Yeah, maybe projecting
Starting point is 02:06:25 I don't know all right your fire fest pf. Yeah, we love you Hank my My fire can be in the high. Love you guys. Thanks Hank. I fucking love you. I love you, too I'd fucking die for you. I'd die for you, too. Maybe I wouldn't die for you. I don't know if I die for you I Would take I I would take like a bullet to the arm for you Someone else wanted to die for you guys instead of me. I'd be down to let them facility, but if it was yeah Yeah, yeah, I'd die for you. I'd die for all of you guys. Thanks. Really yep fuck I you know what I'd fucking die for you guys. I just died Frank. Oh not us man memes who would you die for I
Starting point is 02:07:02 kill for you guys oh Respect that's what I'm talking for you guys. Oh. Respect. That's what I'm talking about, memes. It's my dog. Yeah. All right. So we got a couple people. Darren Revelle.
Starting point is 02:07:13 Who else we got? Well, I was going to say OJ, but nature took care of that. Yeah. Maybe it was memes. Yeah. Thanks, memes. Thank you, memes. Hat tip memes.
Starting point is 02:07:21 All right. Your FireFest BF team. My FireFest is, again, Blake-related, because I just found out yesterday. He's had his shoulder problems, right? And I'm like, what's going on with this dog? He can't walk. He's limping around.
Starting point is 02:07:33 We gave him rest. He's just been chilling, still limping around. Took him in yesterday for a CT scan, CAT scan, which is ironic, because he's a dog. But they scanned him. And his shoulder's fine, but both of his elbows are messed up. So he's getting double elbow surgery What next Thursday Tommy John he's getting double Tommy John. Holy next Thursday So Asin's got a right Jeff passing these through like is is it overuse is it the uniforms?
Starting point is 02:07:58 What is it? It was he not trained as a young dog to play other sports besides jumping So what is double elbow surgery? Look, so I thought about that. I was like, is he going to have like casts on each arm where he's going to be in a front wheelchair? Yeah. So apparently it's like it's scope. So they say he's going to walk out of the hospital that day. Oh, they clean something up. But then it's just yeah, it's a clean up. So like Mark Pryor had seven of those turned out fine. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:08:22 So Blake is going to be on not necessarily bed rest, but just like walking around rest, no running rest for almost the whole summer. But then he should be good after that. But yeah, he's going to come home from the hospital with two big like soft casts on each arm. Double elbow surgery is a crazy thing to go under. There's some somebody in a TV show, I feel like broke both their arms. Are you thinking of Ricky Bobby?
Starting point is 02:08:44 Yeah, Ricky Bobby. Yeah. Yeah. like broke both their arms. Are you thinking of Ricky Bobby? Yeah, Ricky Bobby Yeah, yeah, that was both his legs. Yeah, and they weren't actually broken. Yeah, but that's dogs arms are kind of legs, too Yeah, it's like the old where would dog wear pants. Yeah. Yeah, I would assume that it would be around the neck, right? Cuz they're all They're all legs. Yeah, they're all legs all four legs. They have four legs. You know, that's good That's good that you're not doing this surgery before your Kentucky Derby party. That would have sucked for Blake. It's really good. Yeah. Blake's going, this is last hurrah. Yeah. He's going to jam out. It's his bachelor party. Yeah. So anything that you need your dog to do two
Starting point is 02:09:14 legs, let me know what I should do with Blake in his last week on his original legs. It's crazy. Double elbow surgery at the same time, which is good because if it was one elbow and then another elbow, like six months later, he is good because if it was one elbow and then another elbow like six months later, he'd be like, fuck this. I don't want to go through rehab again. I already know this. I'm not doing it. That's the other thing.
Starting point is 02:09:33 I got to take him. I got to put him on like underwater treadmills and get him rehab. That rocks. Yeah. He's going to have a blast. You got to get a GoPro to get video of it. Yeah, I should. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:09:41 All right. My Fire Fest is, I've talked to Hank and PFT about this and it's not a fire fest. It's a I have a funny content idea that's not funny at all fire fest. My daughter's class has lice, lice outbreak. She does not. We've checked every single day, but it's crazy how fast the lice just goes around like a preschool. It was like boom boom.
Starting point is 02:10:07 Oh, it's in this classroom. Oh no, it's in this. Oh, it's literally everywhere. Either way, don't have lice in my house. Thank God. Knock on wood. Checked every day. No lice.
Starting point is 02:10:17 But when I was telling PFT and Hank, it did dawn on me that it would be very funny if we had a lice outbreak here at Barstool Chicago. So funny how? I don't know I haven't that's yeah, I have the idea I have the idea. I don't know where how it gets to make money and have everyone laugh But the idea is get a lice outbreak in the office. So I swear to God I forgot about this conversation that we had a couple days ago. Is it there's a there's a nugget of a good idea in there somewhere? Yeah, figure out how to present. I know that's what you want to do, right? That's what that's why you wanted to leave part of my take for good three years ago
Starting point is 02:10:53 This is it. This is a race is we got to talk out the idea idea as head of content You have to figure us how you have to help us figure out how to turn this little nugget into a great package Presentation that's fully sponsored just think of that thumbnail that thumbnail Figure us how you have to help us figure out how to turn this little nugget into a great package presentation That's fully sponsored just think of that thumbnail that thumbnail Like lice invades It's so funny with like smoke yeah like a scared What happens if you get bad lights what actually shampoo if there's a shampoo for but like worst-case scenario say you didn't know you had Lice no you know untreated life, you know because you scratch
Starting point is 02:11:27 It's a cat what I was gonna say is I I completely forgot about this conversation with you. I woke up this morning Swear to God my head was super itchy. Oh, and I spent all morning just scratching my head Took a shower shampoo didn't didn't look for any lice or anything But now I'm worried because I had an abnormally itchy head Oh, you might have lice. Do you want to look? No, I don't. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. All right, go you look Oh, you look no you look I said you look like your car fine glass. I Said let's figure it out. I swear to God. My head was super itchy this morning. I'm not joking All right big cats looking through the matching hoodies this is nice visual we're like couple monkeys picking bugs off each other no I am I clean oh you
Starting point is 02:12:14 have dandruff I've dandruff yeah you need the same color yeah no you have dandruff you need the dandruff shampoo I have dandruff I use dandruff shampoo I've never had dandruff yeah yeah you just have dandruff? I use dandruff shampoo. I've never had dandruff. Yeah. Yeah, you just have dandruff. You just have some dry skin. No, I've got Ericif. Yeah. Dandruff is perfectly fine. Normal. Yeah, just use some, use some, sell some blue. Well, that's a load off my back because for about 30 seconds there I thought. No, yeah, you don't. I was putting the pieces together. I didn't see any bugs. I just saw some dandruff.
Starting point is 02:12:44 So yeah, back to the lice, how do we do it? I think maybe we need to get a sandbox and make everyone bring backpacks every day, because that's lice go, they can survive in sand. That's how it happens a lot with like, you know, kindergarten and all that stuff. So maybe that's what we do. And then I'll get the lice.
Starting point is 02:13:03 In a jar? No, I'll put them in my head. Your head. And then I'll get the lice. In a jar? No, I'll put them in my head. Your head. And then I'll be patient zero and I'll just pass it around and we'll be like, yeah, think about the thumbnail. It's kind of happened when COVID happened. It's kind of like a, maybe like a Mr. Beast type video, like last person to not get lice wins.
Starting point is 02:13:19 Oh, it's a contest, yeah. Lice survivor. I wonder if we could dye the lice so we could see them more clearly. Day glow? Yeah. Lice survivor. I wonder if we could dye the lice so we could see him more clearly. Day glow? Yeah. Just replace all the lights with UV lights. Someone figure out how to get from Office Gets Lice to make money funny. Yeah. Let us know.
Starting point is 02:13:38 Sound off in the comments. What, Max? Max has something. No, this is just so random that I don't... You brought up UV lights. Did you see that there's a college baseball team that's just doing a complete UV baseball game with a black light? No. And like glow in the dark uniforms and balls? Savannah Bananas?
Starting point is 02:13:57 No. I'll say it. Black lights suck. Yeah. Okay, because I don't come in my pants, but I always, when I see a black light, I'm like, did I come in my pants? Oh yeah. And like a hotel room? Yeah. No, or like a bowling alley. I go to a black light bowling alley and you're like, I don't, I don't remember ever coming in my pants, but who put this come on my pants? I think from time to time, black lights are black lights matter to me. It's matter. Oh, this is actually awesome.
Starting point is 02:14:22 Yeah, it is that it, does look cool This is very cool But do you guys not have the same fear whenever you go to like a blacklight bowling alley, you know You know that there's not a problem. We're spill guy. There could be a problem Yeah, this is very cool. We should do a blacklight. Pardon my take. Yeah, there's probably come in this studio Or something you think anyone's fucked in the studio? No. I have not. I have not.
Starting point is 02:14:48 Pug? I have not. I have not. I have not. Pug is not here to answer. Memes? Oh, a lot of people have been in this office. Memes.
Starting point is 02:14:57 Memes definitely has. OK, Jake, finish this off. Yeah, on a similar note, I've also been- So lice? Yeah, I've been itchy this week But it's because I got freaking destroyed by mosquitoes Yeah, you're on the marks to show it. It was really bad. No bugs, right? After the first day
Starting point is 02:15:17 Too late. Did you one of those guys is like bugs for some reason like me more than yes. Yeah my blood Yeah, remember that time we went to oh sorry disc golf I know that no frisbee golf fuck that we say whatever we want we went on Long Island and we got Billy into a veggie Roy yeah Billy got alpha gal yeah it was so bad yeah similar to that bugs yeah the the that sucks he missed the first day like the first day with the bug spray because I'll be back next week and I'll be prepared I like a good bug bite. How many did you did you kill Jake? What was that Max? That's just a horrible Yeah, but but like whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa I agree. I don't like a lot of bug bite
Starting point is 02:15:59 No, you don't want any but one or two good bug bites and you can itch it I kind of like yeah, but then you it starts bleeding and the scabs and the scars come I'd rather two good bug bites and you can itch it? I kinda like it. Yeah, but then it starts bleeding and the scabs and the scars come. I'd rather have three bug bites than one. That's kinda where I'm at right now. If you have one, then that's all you're thinking about. I've got like six on each arm. If you have one, you just assume it was a spider
Starting point is 02:16:15 that bit you in the middle of your seat. Yeah, spider bite, yeah. I like a good bug bite. Just a good old-fashioned bug bite. Like maybe on the top of your shin, nice little spot. You can scratch it a little And I feel like no one no one's no one's with me. I feel like you might be in an island We're gonna have mosquito bites and lice and be like what was I think that no one's with me? All right
Starting point is 02:16:36 No, you might be that might be a little like S&M thing where it's like a little bit of pain feels good Just one sometimes feeling bad feels like watching great in a place like this. Yeah, just like blood. Yeah one good bug bite I don't want a lot Anything more than a couple and you're just like this fucking sucks I can't believe I forgot to put on bug spray what Jake's going through right now But a single bug bite on the top of your shin. It's not so bad I'll give you some of my blood and maybe they'll come find you a blood transfusion. Just that young blood. Yeah Yeah, we should do a Blacklight blood transfusion with lice.
Starting point is 02:17:08 And then we should make all our younger employees give their blood to us. This feels like a, if our rest of the day has just been an extended brainstorming session. Yeah, it's been good. Ready to go. Okay. The lice thing, I do think that we can work with that.
Starting point is 02:17:20 Yes, thank you. Because I remember when I initially said it, you're like, that's a bad idea. I'm happy that you've seen the lice. I think you get two teams, and then see which one can get fully covered in lice first. A game of tag with lice? Lice cross. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:17:32 Yeah. Lice are so gross. Remember when Clay Travis just willingly said his kids had lice? Oh yeah, because he was mad at the airline for not letting him fly. Signing with the airline there. Yeah.
